I know.. for shame for shame... I am a f-body owner
BUT
I have to admit.. I have a real difficult time distinguishing some of the different types of f-bods out there except for the Pontiac/Camaro difference.. DUH.
I was wondering if someone could post all the different types of 4th gen. f-bods.. both LS1 and LT1 so when I'm driving down the freeway I know what the hell I'm looking at.

Thanks
Brian

It's actually real simple. The LT1's (1993-1997) have indented headlights and a pointy nose, the rest of the car is basically the same as the 98+. A LS1 (1998-2001) has regular non-indented, flush with the bumper headlights and has that grill in the middle that looks like a mouth.

If they have 1 silly little pipe with a turn down on the left side it usually means there's a monster V6 under the hood.

I appreciate the effort there guys, but I guess I didn't specify enough.
I can tell the difference between the Camaro 4th gens.. That's no problem...
I'm talking more the differences w/ the TA/Firebird and Mecham and whatever other type of Pontiac 4th gen there is.
The only thing I know of or bothered to find out is that there are differences in the hood, but don't know which one goes to what.
Thanks for the help.

I hear ya SS RRR. I have trouble too. Usually I ask my wife. She asked Dave H in Michigan last year and he gave her some tips. I still don't get it. The only thing I can tell different most of the time is the difference between a Formula rear wing and a Trans Am rear wing.

Don't know about the Mechans and stuff ...

but the T/A has the big spoiler that is elevated from the lid ... the regular and Formula is just a raised lip on the lid.

The standard 98+ Firebird hood has two small nostrils under the hood. The WS-6 ram air has 4 nostrils and a raised center on the hood. The Firehawk, has 2 larger nostrils in the hood ... the best looking of the bunch in my opinion, and heat extractors further back on the hood.

Others can pickup and explain the 97 and earlier configerations .. they have some very interesting distinctions that the likes of a Mac Logan know in detail.

As a rule of thumb, on the 93-97s, any Firebird with the raised spoiler has an LT1. The Formulas (if not the WS6 or Hawk with the Ram Air hood) are harder to spot...you either have to have a eye for the wider wheels and stance if they're coming up behind you, or see the rear for the dual exhausts (or the 2-O-T-L), or be able to read the "Formula" script on the door.

Of course when they pass you, the sound will be unmistakable.

'Birds & Formulas have two 'snouts' whilst the T&As have twin fog lamps.

And the sound is usually a dead giveaway.
