Hi all...... new to this board.... first post as a matter of fact
I'm ordering an SS in one month and I had planned on ordering it with leather. My question is to those of you who currently have leather seats. Are you happy with them in all weather conditions? I live in a HOT summer town and want to know if I'm gonna be peeling myself off the seats all day long.
The dealer I was speaking with said the leather has been improved over the past few years. Anyone own a 2001 with leather? Had it in the heat yet?
Looking for opinions.... Glad to be among so many SS enthusiasts. This one will be my first.

Can't go wrong with either one. I have black leather in my 2000 SS. My buddy has gray cloth in his 99 SS. I think they both look killer. I live in AZ and I didn't have any problems sticking during hot weather. I use leather conditioner on mine about twice a month. Seems to keep them soft. Only advantage I see in the leather is resale value. Cloth will save you some money in the begining though. Jeff

I think color and the amount of tint you have makes a difference. I have black leather and additional tint and the tint helps...black will always be warm, but it does help your value and "it only hurts for a little while", up front!

Couldn't justify the extra $$$ for 'leather seating surfaces'.
Besides, its a big hassle, sliding around on those 'leather' seats when on a road course.

Hate leather, especially the cheap Camaro leather. Didn't order leather. Car showed up with leather. Put seat covers on.

Leather is not very good quality in my SS. I take very good care of it and it is not bad, but I do slids around on road courses. I would get cloth if I had to do it over again.

After going around the track at Bragg-Smith slipping and sliding around on leather seats, I'd say go for the cloth. We have leather in our SS, but have them covered with Terry cloth seat covers for comfort. The leather that comes on the Camaro wears quickly. If you get cloth, you can always change to a better quality leather through an aftermarket company if you ever change your mind.

Actually, I not sure it's the leather at all. She gets real nervous when we're blasting around and she says she'll do ANYTHING if I quit driving like a seventeen year old.

I have leather in my 2001 ss. I picked it up about a week ago approx 1000 miles on the car now. It has not gotten hot yet but the cold is not a factor with the seats vs cloth in the other cars. The ability to shift position in the seat with out getting "indian underwear", the kind that keep creeping up on you, is a real plus. The cloth seats really seem to grab the fabric of my pants and cause discomfort.
As to the heat, in summer in Texas it gets hot and stays hot, it is also almost always sunny. We keep refectors to put in the windsheild area of our cars to cut down on the solar gain. I am also considering deep tinting for the side and rear windows.
After spending a great deal of time in cloth seats from my other vehicles I am glad I now have the leather.

I like the look and feel of leather. Everything the folks here say is true but I would rather put up with a little extra heat and sliding for the look and feel of leather. If it doesn't matter that much to you, go with the cloth.

If the cloth were the original "burberry" tight weave style, like in the 93 and 94s I would say go for it. But I hate that mouse fur crap they call "cloth" So this time I went with leather and like it in my 2001 SS. Leather from now on.
