My wife and I have been big NASCAR fans for several years now, have attended many races, Atlanta, Talledaga, Bristol, Charlotte, but after Sunday, no more. I am sure Dale Earnhardt would want it otherwise and would like for us to continue on, but to many deaths in four short years. No more watching TV races either. Sorry Dale, this is how its got to be for us. KICKBACK SLP#4340 2000SS

MOO4340, I know how you feel. When I was a kid in the early 70's, my favorite Indy driver was a guy named Swede Savage. A driver with a name like that, how could a kid not like him? I can still see him coming out of the turn and hitting the inside wall. His death was really depressing, and I recall not following racing quite the same way again.
Over the years I came and went with auto racing. This past Sunday, I decided I really need to get back to NASCAR because I always enjoyed it, and Earnhart was a big reason for that. Despite Fox's "NFL" style of broadcasting the race, it was a good one with the lead group three wide for most of the race and lots of lead changes. Mike Waltrip's victory was an emotional one, what with his brother Daryl announcing and all those races he started but hadn't won until Sunday.
It was a shame regarding Earnhart, and I know many Rusty fans never liked him. But even they will admit that Dale did bring NASCAR a long way from when he started in the 70's. All fans should be grateful for that.
We'll miss you Dale... God bless you and yours. And congratulations Mike Waltrip... I know your heart is not into it, but you did a hell of a job out there on Sunday.
