Took delivery of my 2001 SS today!! The long wait was well worth it. The car is a blast to drive. I loved my RS, but there is just no comparison...I have no regrets about moving up. The SS is just awesome.
One serious problem though...keeping the car under 50 mph for the first 500 miles is proving to be VERY difficult. Getting to 500 miles is going to be another very long wait...
The car was delivered with 6 miles showing, and I took the car for a 70 mile long drive home the back, back way. Also stopped to pay a visit to Doug97SS and his wife...they flipped out and are in love with the car already. I think I smell a 2002 f-body coming to that family...

Car Looks good. With the exception of the wheels (mine are ten spoke chrome) it looks like mine. The first 500 miles will go by fast, I have had mine about 10 days and have 1300 on it. If you want to avoid speeding tickets use your cruise control, or your liable to be exceeding the speed limit with out even trying.
This is the most fun to drive car I have ever owned, it reminds me of my motorcycles that I rode in the past. The ss is not as fast or as quick but it is much more comfortable.

Congrats John! Ain't it grand? As far as the 500mi break in goes... Just FYI... From what I've been told it is a good idea to vary the rpm. But I've also heard to "drive it like you stole it..." I drove mine about 200 miles before laying into it. Enjoy it fella! Now Doug and I will have to badger you on ways to make it fast!

Congrats on the new ride!!! I've had mine a couple of months and it's really difficult to have to go somewhere and not take it!!! Our "around town" car is a Camry...nice...but not comparable... you'll find the "around town" mileage TERRIBLE for a while...but I've found that mileage starts improving after the 10,000 mile mark... that goes for on the road as well...

Yeah, you're not kidding...just keeping it under 50 was a major challenge. Well...the sun is coming up...time to get to work on the SS...ack, hack, cough...sorry, can't come in to work today.

500 mile break in - balderdash - these engines are run up to red line before they leave the factory - honest. Ask SLP - just drive it and have fun!!

Hmmm.. lemme start.. Don't know if you have an auto or manual so.. Vig 3500 stall and 3.42 gears if auto 3.73 gears if manual Headers/Y-pipe/cut-out ARE heads/cam/LS6 intake/ HD pushrods (which would prolly be a good idea anyway even if stock) custom program package guaranteed to get you at least 400rwhp... Strange 12-bolt w/ HD carrier... only after you've broken the stock one a few times.. MUUAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA Mid to high 11's w/ manual most likely w/ a low 1.7 or high 1.6 short time. Low 11's w/ 1.5 short times... EASY. C'mon mang! Posts: 190 | From: South Riding, VA | Registered: Sep 2000
