I got pulled over by a cop here in San Diego for not having a front plate! It's a $10 charge to put through the paperwork when you get it on but it looks terrible on the car!!! Has anyone in the San Diego area had this problem? What did you do about it? When I asked Mike Grasso about it...he said it wasn't a problem for him...because he had ID...he's an LA cop! If for have had to put on a plate...how did you do it?

Thanks for the input...I've had an email from at least one San Diego member who does not run a front plate...but since they are required...it seems like it's only a matter of time until someone stops you. The plate REALLY spoils the look! There must be a better way of dealing with the matter instead of having this huge plate on the front, but for now...I guess we're stuck! It costs $10 the first time, but I have no idea what the fine is for not following up! Andy feedback from others would still be appreciated.

I think the law really sucks. You don't see vipers and ferraries running around with front plates why should we? I'm not gonna put my plate on until I have to.

Yeah, being forced to run a front plate really sucks. What ya gonna do though? The Feds have the upper hand.
There are some pics in my Photopoint Album of my SLP front plate bracket setup. You have to drill two small holes in the underside of the fascia, not the grille for this bracket. For me, this was no biggie as the drill holes are out of sight anyways. If you go this route, install the mounting screws from the inside of the fascia so that the threads are exposed on the outside of the fascia. Then put a nut onto each screw and tighten. Now, put the bracket onto the mounting screws with two wingnuts and tighten securly. This way, using wingnuts, you can easily remove your plate and bracket for when you are not on the road. While at the track, pics etc...

We have the same problem and have had the same discussion in Texas. With about the same answers. I have ran without the front tag so far. So far I have not received the ticket. Others have. I will continue to run without one unless the word gets out that I am flaunting the law and I start getting hassled. But so far, so good.
One guy went so far as to beat his plate up with a hammer. If he gets pulled over, he says, "yeah I know, but I was in an accident and I'm waiting to get the new plate." LOL.
I don't like the law, but it is the law. If I get caught, I will pay.

Hey Andy, Are you going to the next Camaro Club of San Diego meeting? It's tomorrow at the Hamburger Factory in Poway at 7:00 PM. Get there early for a good parking spot. I'd like to meet you in person and check out #31.

Yup! Gonna try and get there...Suz is recovering from the first round of chemo, but I'm gonna have someone come to stay with her for the evening. I really appreciate you asking! It'll be good to meet some of the folks...

I refuse to run a front plate, even though it is required in CA. It doesn't look good on these cars and I don't want to mess up my grill either. IMO, front plates are pretty much useless anyway. I also have tinted windows and they are pretty dark. My car is a daily driver and if I get nailed for it, then I will pay the $10 and be on my way. But so far, so good. It also helps having a cop in the family to sign off the tickets! I would still have to pay the fine, just wouldn't have to get the car inspected.

If you get pulled over...they'll give you a notice to appear...it's at least a month away...and for $10 they do the paperwork and that's it...but if you get pulled over again after that for the same thing...I'm not sure...any cops who are members? We used to have Mike...maybe he'll see this and jump in...many thanks to John Paul Bell back in Brampton for his help.

I thought of that Steve but even though the plate is on the car, it is still not legal to have it down there - believe me I checked. It must be clearly visible and on the forwardmost part of the car or something. So I just said forget it....if I get a ticket I'll pay the fine. And as far as I know, you don't have to worry about multiple offenses for "fix-it" tickets.
BTW, I am headed to DMV to reserve a personalized plate....SSKRAM.....MARKSS backwards

Is there anyone who has checked to see if the fix-it tickets are cumulative? FOR SURE! I'd pay the #10 bucks and then take the darn thing off if I knew that it wouldn't bring more trouble later...

Talked to several people at the SDCC meeting Wednesday evening about the front plate deal. There seems to be a good chance you get a "fix-it" ticket for the plate thing...and once you take it in for inspection, you could take the plate off and if flagged down again...just pay the $10 again...I don't think thewre are a lot of cops running around chasing people with no front plate...but this is, at least to some extent, speculation!!! I HAVE ordered the SLP front plate bracket!

As I said above, here in CA it is required but I do not put the front plate on. IF I get my $10 fix it ticket, I will pay the fine. And if I get nailed again, I will pay $10 again, and again and again if necessary. I have had my car for one year now and have not had so much as a second glance from the cops. They don't seem to mind around here...I guess it just depends on where you live and the moods of the officers.
I think the SLP bracket is a very clever design for these cars, but I just don't like a front plate on my car so I choose not to get it.
Andy, if you are worried, it would be a good investment for you but who knows, maybe you just caught a cop on a bad day....

I've been running without front plates for two years. I have been pulled over twice for going just a little two fast, both times by MC cops on I-15 near Mira Mesa, both times warinings and nothing about the front plate. Also just got a parking ticket outside my kids school while dropping them off, 5 min in a 3 min zone, I was there while the cop was writing the ticket and complained that he had the time wrong (he did) and he gave me the ticket anyway, while standing in front of the car, he waked to the back for the plate, never said anything about the front plate not there. Bottom line, it depends entirely on the cop. These were three different SDPD traffic cops.

Well, in the end, I'll put on the front plate fopr the ticket appearance and then take it off again...if I get stopped again, we'll know whether they tack on something more for the second time... Thanks for all the feedback...
