IMHO the only things that HPPs are good for is to correct the speedo for a gear change, program the fans to come on sooner for a 160* thermostat and A4 owners can change their shift points.
Other than that I think they're pretty much worthless. If you do heads/cam/headers/etc. you should get your PCM custom programmed.

I agree with Scott. My previous 3 4th gen f-bodies all were modified with the HPP3. Different units for 3 different model years. It made absolutely no difference on my '96 M6 Z28. On my '97 M6 30th, it was like night and day. It made a very big difference. On my '99 A4 Z28, it made no difference on the power, but worked well for letting me firm up the shifts and recal the speedo after I swapped out the factory 2.73's for the DTS 3.42's. It seems to be a more valuable mod if you own an A4. With the M6, my experience is that it's a crap shoot, and a pretty expensive one at that.
