Two interesting little questions to start the week...
1) How many of us use our SS or'Hawk as a daily driver? I realize the northern drivers will not be using their cars in the bad weather.
2) What's the lowest build number seen?

In my case, I work from my home, so I don't have to drive too many miles, but I DO use #31 most days. The 2000 SS has just over 17,000 miles now.

Another interesting point...how many have found their gas mileage improving after 10,000 miles?

C219 is no longer a daily driver, but is driven regularly year round, even here in the north.

I have just over 28,000 miles in just under 21 months.

Can't say that I noticed a measurable improvement in fuel economy ... but I am impressed with the the highway fuel economy.

A friend of ours said his '94 Z28 got 30 mpg after it got 10K on the odometer.....once everything loosened up a little it seemed to get better and better.

I use my '99 SS year round as well. I work fairly close to home (~15 miles) so I've only put on about 13,300 miles in approximately 19 months. With the right snow tires (as poSSum pointed out with the picture) the SS is a perfectly capable winter car.

Andy, with the weather we are having right now I don't think you'll have to worry about rain tires or anything like that

Mines not a daily driver and yours is the lowest build # I've seen #31

1997 SS #1882 with 15,000 miles. I'm going to try and make it my fair weather daily driver this year. I haven't paid any attention to gas mileage.

She's not a daily driver. When I picked it up last December, I drove home and parked it. She's got about 1700 miles on her now and I'll probably put another 5 or 6k on the clock before the end of the year. My '99 A4 Z28, which I traded for #3122, was a daily driver. I drove it through the winter of '99-'00 and it performed flawlessly. Granted, that winter was nowhere near as bad as the one we just finished, but I did have to drive home from work in a couple NASTY snowstorms with 6-inches plus on the roads. The car never missed a beat and the ASR helped keep the shiny side up. Seriously, the car drove so well, the ASR rarely made its presence known. These cars are lightyears ahead of the 3rd gen cars for foul weather traction and control.

I've been told that the LS-1's will build power and performance through the first few thousand miles and that dyno numbers from a pull with 500-1000 miles on the clock will generally be lower than pulls made after 5 or 6k on it. Anyone see this for real? My SS is pretty ferocious now as it is.

Andy

I remember lots of slides with my 3Gen IROC in the late 80's...those Gatorbacks aquaplanned like crazy...but hopefully I won't have to deal with snow under #31.

Hey, let's face it, a day without a drive in your Camaro is like a day without sunshine....and just depresses me to no end..... Don't know for sure about the lowest number, but Chevy still has VIN # 100014 from the '98 model year--a "pilot" SS that is currently on loan to Baer....has a supercharger installed.....I believe it is the first Auto trans SS to have a vortech installed..........
