Could someone explain, or give me a tutorial in how to paint your calipers. Be known that I'm not very excelled in this area of cars, so I'm kinda lost when it comes to things in the brake area and tires..

i think that DaddySS has recently painted his calipers. you might want to page him. btw, where do you live? HTWLSS, myself and maybe a couple of other SSOA members are thinking on having a caliper painting party this fall or winter.

Dang, you got a lot of the mods I want for my SS. I was wondering though, how do you put in the rear deck mat?? I'm also looking around to buy the 10-spoke chrome ss rims with ss centercaps, where did you get those from? along with the key fobs and dash plaque..

all of the SLP options i ordered with the car. such as the key fobs and dash plaque, rear deck matt, and chrome wheels. if you want any of these options, just call SLP and you can order them. you can even personalize your rear matt with your name, or car year and SLP # and so forth. if you have a coupe, just lay the matt down on the flat rear area behind the rear seats. if you have a conv. you do not have a rear flat space you can put it. however, you could display it at shows either in your trunk with the lid up or maybe on the ground in front of you car. anything that you could have ordered through the Y2Y SLP options when you got your car, you can order now from SLP. have fun with your mods. i have many more to buy and install

There are two ways to paint the calipers and many different kinds of paint to use. HTWLSS posted a site with caliper painting kit, or you can use high temperature paint, I just used high gloss engine paint.
The two ways to do it are to mask off the calipers and paint them on the car or remove the caliper, bracket and rotor.
Either way is easy, the latter a bit more time consuming.
Let me know how you plan to go about it and I'll post the directions if you'd like.
Either way you should get a set of MARK IXD's decals to finish the job!

Matt 01 SS, I Would suggest masking off the calipers while on the car. I did mine this way, and theres no way you will end up with air in your brake lines. I went to Pep Boys and purchaced a great pair of Two ton floor jacks. (About fifty bucks) They are invaluable if you plan on working on your own car. Simply jack up the front of the car and place the jack stands under the frame of the car, I have found the area under the control arms where the shocks mount to be a good place. Be careful whatever you do, the car could squish you like a bug if it should fall. Check out previous posts regarding the caliper/decals. Theres some great tips on methods of painting. good luck!

hey matt, there is no stock rear matt. it is just a flat carpeted area behind the rear seats. you lay the matt down on that carpeted area just like you would lay down your ss floor matts. the matt has little rubber grippers like that floor matts to help keep it in place while in motion. sorry i don't have a picture yet. maybe someone else does?

may I ask where you got those SS center caps?
I have been looking for those because i have the painted 5 Spokes and I was gonna get some of the ones from a 97' SS but I was told they are a darker silver.

I have a question pertaining to standing your car up. I have a set of 2-ton jackstands and I was wondering how are you supposed to put the car up on these? Do you jack the car up with the thing that comes with the car for flat tires and put a stand on one side then do the other? how do you do it??

Oooops! I assumed you have a floor jack. Another suggestion, buy yourself the best floor jack you can afford. I have an old 4 ton jack that I bought years ago when I was into fixing up Datsun 510's for performance driving. They are really low to the ground like Camaros, so be sure to find one that has a good ground clearance.Most are 4-6" from the ground. I have to slip it under there and wiggle it around a little to make it fit. Like I said earlier, If your planning on doing some work yourself theese are tools that will become invaluable to you. Even somthing simple like changing your oil is 100% easier. Some people prefer the drive on ramps to lift the car, but in my experience they are difficult to use with low to the ground cars. Use good judgement and never get under the car unless its supported by proper jack stands. I sometimes leave the jack in place, just for added safety. Good luck!

XL - I don't suggest disconnecting the calipers, just removing them from the bracket and hanging them with wire. This way you can remove the bracket and the pads and paint the caliper, the bracket and rotors separately.

Point taken. I wasnt suggesting that either. Were on the same page. I actually found it pretty easy to mask them off and paint them in place. Who ever looks at the inside portion of your calipers anyway. BTW, Im sorry about your ordeal with your car. i just posted a note on your post.

i would not recommend using the jack that comes with the car unless in an emergency situation. the jack looks so whimpy i would not trust my life for it to hold up the car for extended periods of time. get yourself a floor jack that can support at least 2 tons, preferably more.
place two blocks behind your rear tires and set the parking brake.
place the jack under the front of the car under the front axle. it is a thick black piece of metal. make sure you put it here because if place somewhere else, that part of the car might not be stable enough to support the full weight of the car, and it might give. if you cannot fit the jack under the front axle, then drive up onto 2-3 in. thick wooden board or something that will not be crushed under the weight of the car. this should produce enough room to fit the floor jack under the front axle.
proceed to jack up your car appox. 1 in. higher than the desired height of the jack stand. usually this is the second from the last hole. place both jack stands under the car. one at each end of the front axle. there should be a flat spot there. jack up the stands until they are as close to the car as possible and lock them.
slowly lower your car until it is resting on the stands. make sure you are not under the car when you do this.
then as added safety, jack your floor jack back up to the center of the front axle until you first meet resistance. do not jack up any further because you will lift the car off the jack stands.
