Help!!! I was driving around yesterday in my 2000 SS A4 ready to cruise to Sunset Blvd. Suddenly I turn on to a freeway onramp and my car makes a horrible grinding noise. The noise was very different from the grinding that you get in a manual when you don't hit the clutch. It radiated throughout the drivetrain and exhaust, but stops when you shift into another gear. Also, no problems in Neutral or Park when you rev. It seems like an obvious transmission problem. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow, but can anybody suggest what might be wrong and what I should do?
Thanks in advance!!!

I'm a little rusty on the auto trans stuff but there are planetary gears associated with the various bands and it sounds like first is hosed. Get it to the dealer asap!
