Mark your calendars now ... the Camaro/Firebird Gathering at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky is scheduled for September 20 - 22, 2002.
This is the target event for "1,000" Camaros in one place other than St. Therese"
To quote the F-Bodfather
quote: We are planning to hit 1,000 Camaros at the National Corvette Museum on Sept. 20-22 2002....Why Bowling Green? The Museum is "expert" at putting together a great show weekend (not that many of you are not...but that is what they do...and they do it all the time..) In addition to all the things a show can be or offer..you also get the opportunity to tour a GM assembly plant (Corvette) the museum tour, drag-racing, autocrossing, and gocart racing....to name just a few.....and, the facility is big enough......so mark your calendars now!!!

I'll be there. I may even trailer my SS down and bring two different sets of wheels so I can do both Autocross and Drag racing. Posts: 1413 | From: Wappingers Falls,NY | Registered: Jun 2000

SWEET!!! I'm totally there! If you didn't go this year, you MUST go next year. The Corvette assembly plant alone makes the trip entirely worthwhile.

I was at a classic & custom car auction in Toronto on the weekend. There were a number of GM SS's on the block including a restored orange '69 Camaro SS - 396. I didn't see what it sold for, but I was tempted to make an offer (unfortunately my banker (my wife) wouldn't free up the funds ). A '70 Chevelle SS - 396 sold for $19K Cdn..

A friend of ours restored a Cortez Silver, 375 h.p. big block '69, painted it Hugger Orange and sold it last year for somewhere around $25K (sight unseen, except for pics over the internet) to someone in Hawaii.
'69's are getting some high prices....they're the ones that people seem to remember most from the "good old days". I'm still partial to my '67 though.

Love those 1st gen Camaros. I was thinking about restoring one when I came across a first 4th gen SS, a '96 SS in '98, fell in love all over again (don't tell my wife), and then ordered my '99. Still want to have a COPO - some day.
I'm still trying to figure out how Fbodfather got the job I should have had at GM. Maybe it's because I don't work at GM, or because he's better looking.

Sounds like a great time! Maybe I can actually have the 69' mostly restored by then and take a road trip. Only bad part would be not autocrossing or road racing. The 69' is not the right car for that. But Dan would let me drive the Z06, right Dan? I'll be nice to her. Pretty please...

Why not, many others have driven it. I am happy to let my f-bod friends enjoy my toys with me. I guess that means I have to bring the Z06. Posts: 5946 | From: Litchfield, NH, USA | Registered: Feb 2000

Moving right along .. I've blocked 12 non-smoking rooms at the Best Western Continental Inn for the SSOA which gives us breathing room right up to September 1.

You read my mind. I was going to e-mail you to see where you stayed, and try to make reservations for next year.
Do you already have names for the 12 rooms? If so, I'll go ahead and make a separate reservation.
Thanks. John
Nope. No names yet. I just wanted to make sure that a bunch of us could stay there. The group rate is $55.00 per night and it sound like they'll throw in a very very basic continental breakfast .... donuts, coffee and juice.
This hotel is in between the Museum and the plant. There is one other where the "dignitaries" were staying right across from the museum, it's smaller, and I expect more expensive.
There's a restaurant on the hotel lot and a Wendy's across the street .
The heavy concentration of hotels and restaurants is one exit up the interstate (about 5 miles and it was under construction) and is also an option, though definitely my second choice.
You're welcome to part of this block if you like.

For the rooms, if you'd be so kind. Send me an e-mail with your name address and phone number.
I'll start collecting names now, but won't submit them to the hotel until the middle of August, allowing lots of time for changes in plans. After I submit the list to the hotel you'll have to call them to guarantee your room with your credit card.
