I had to drive my new car home though some bad conditions a few weeks ago. There is alot of dirt and salt under the car I would like to clean off. I also plan on changing my own oil at 1,000 mi.
I have a set of metal ramps that measure 9 inches across. I also have a 3 1/2 ton floor jack and stands on order from Sears. Are the 9 inch wide ramps wide enough? Are wider ramps available? Or do you recommend waiting for the jack and stands?
I haven't been under a car in 25 years and I don't feel like getting crushed.
Thanks for your help.

Well, I use all 3! I have to drive on the ramps to get the jack under the front, then a lift off
the ramps and put the stands under. Sounds like a lot but it's safe and after the first time it goes pretty quickly.

The tires are a tad wide for the 9" ramps but it will work.

Just remember - no short cuts - safety first.

I use a floor jack and jack stands. Some ramps will move when trying to drive up them.

Last year I bought a lift. It is called the Qicklift. I don't know if you ever heard of it. I used to use ramps or jack stands, but that was really a pain in the a**. I love the Quicklift. You just drive on it like a ramp. Then you jack up the rear part. It has stands, which fold down and your car is sitting level. You ca roll under it with a creeper and have plenty of room underneath to work on it. It was $1450.00,but worth every penny.

Ralph,
That sounds great. Where can I find more information about it? (Is it stationary? Is it portable? Where can you get it?)
Thanks.
