Anyone else have this problem?

I've been trying to ignore it for a long time. It started when the car was about 6 months old. It seems worse or more noticeable now that I have my Pro 5.0 installed. I used to hold more pressure on the stick, but with the Pro 5.0, I'm so sure I'm in 3rd, I let go and put my hands back on the wheel.

The stick will pop out of 3rd and into neutral. Very annoying. I found a service bulletin on this and I think I'm going to get it fixed under warranty - or try. I just took my car in for a slow power window motor and the dealer is going to fix that, so I figured I'd hit them up on this too.

Just curious if anyone has had this fixed?

My aftemarket version of the T-56 (in my '69) keeps popping out of 3rd gear intermittently only on decel. Unfortunatly mine wont be covered under a warranty. Whats the fix, new shift fork?

I got mine done under warranty. They replace 3rd gear and synchros and shift fork, I believe for the TSB. Careful on who you take it to. My dealer said 1 1/2 days. They took 6 days to get it done. Apparently they never took apart a manual transmission before (hard to believe, right) and weren't aware of a special tool they needed to remove 5th gear I think it was. Apparently, they usually just swap the whole tranny when they have problems. Typical dealer mentality, whether you consider it good or bad.

I was not at all pleased with how long it took. I had paid for a driving school on the weekend and would never have given it to them if I thought there was a chance they wouldn't get it done in time. Anyway, because of the whole fiasco, I ended up buying a high-mileage Z28 for autocross. It'll all work out for the best, I suppose. Now I won't have to worry about beating up the SS.

I can understand why they might have had troubles. The Borg-Warner, now Tremec Transmission, was not allowed to be opened up by dealers until 1998. When my 98 LS1 had a problem, the dealer said it was the first time his tranny guy had been permitted to open the borg-warner up. Prior to that, they had to send it off or something like that.

They had trouble getting the hang of it. They had to do like 4 things to get the 3rd gear to work properly.. I had a damaged synchro.

Yep, mine's been doing it occasionally for the last couple of years. It's going into the Dealer to be fixed on May 28, before my warranty runs out.

Here is the bulletin I found on the issue.

Mine is always on the decel too.

I'll ask about this tomorrow when I take it in for the window fix. I'll let you all know what they say.

Glad to know others are having the same issue and it's not uncommon. That should help in my quest for warranty work.

Good news update!

The dealer agreed that my car has this problem and ordered the parts to fix it!!

No hassles and no whining. I was very happy. I did not even bother to remove my !CAGS or my Pro 5.0.

Let's count this as a Good Dealership experience so far.

Ryan
