What components does the factory in-dash CD player come with in terms of speaker types and locations in a 2002 SS? Does it come with a subwoofer? Thanks.

I have a 2000 SS and the system consists of 8 speakers in 6 locations. I'm not sure if yours is the same, but I figure it is. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The front door speakers have "2" speakers in each panel, a 6.75 inch woofer and tweeter (I forgot the size). The side pillars are both 6.75 woofers that are crossed-over low. They hit the mid-bass pretty well, but their really low end is poor. The rear hatch speakers are 4 inch full range speakers (though the speaker cover makes you think that they are 6x9's).

Hope this helps.

I have the factory 2002 Monsoon radio in my 35th. It has been tested with 500 peak watts of power. . .the bass in incredible. . .more power than you need, frankly! My 35th has eight speakers in it. . .placed from front to back around the body paneling. . .the sound is crystal clear. The name of the radio fits the sound surrounding ability. . .monsoon! Pay the money, you'll love it!

500 Watts of Peak Power is pretty much a gimmick. I forgot the exact RMS power output, but I really don't think that it every pumps out that much power. My brother has a 300 Watt RMS Alpine V12 amp that gets 100x lounder and is much clearer (of course, he paid for that too).

I personally think that if you are a hard-core audiophile, then you'll be disappointed with the system. It's not a bad system in terms of what a factory will put in, but from an overall sound perspective, it is not that good. It is slightly bass heavy (again, focusing on the mid-bass), with the highs not so crisp. But again, if you are not too crazy about it, then the system is very good for everyday use.
