On my recent purchase of my 01' SS I noticed the roof panel(the piece between the T-tops and Rear big window) Paint job is defective. There is an "orange peel" effect on the entire panel and you can see the "gum plaster" under the paint. What's very strange is when the car is in direct sunligh for a few hours the paint looks even worse like it's boiling under the paint. I took my SS to my local Chevrolet dealer and was agreed I have a badly painted roof panel. My hometown dealer will re-paint my SS next week.

Has anybody here had a similar problem with their paint?

There have been various paint complaints over the years, but yours is the first roof panel I've seen.

Dealer should correct it, same with your window leak. When you close your door with the window up, make sure you don't close it by pushing on the glass. That will cause leaks later.

you know thats funny my center piece between my panels has a weird look to it like it has a rainbow colored effect to it. its hard to describe and the dealer said it was the car wash i was using...(zaino) i told him he was nuts. i have used it on other cars and never had any problems. maybe ill call the gm rep i have been dealing with and have it fixed when they replance my weatherstrip next week for the ttop leak.

They just finished doing mine a few weeks ago and another guys a few months ago. Seems there was a bad batch of resin that leached through and causes the paint to bubble up. They have to replace the whole section, repainting will not work as the resin will just leach through again.

Hi Fred,

My dealer finally agrees with me that it's the panel that's the problem and not the paint. I called Gus a few times and he's a very nice guy. I would like to speak to you about how they re-did your panel. My dealer service rep gives me bad vibes like I'm a pain in his ass. He has not told me I could have a rental car for the down time. I'm thinking about requesting that I be there in person with my camera to take pics before, during and after the procedure and even write up a small mini agreement-contract as to where there are scratches on the car. To protect myself just in case they screw up. Did you do this?

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks
