ok, after our conversation tonight, I started messing with my mapping software...
Distance from I-84/Rt 17 to NCM is 986 miles via Skyline Drive.
If we stopped after 500 miles, we are landing around Lexington, Va near I-81/I-64 intersection.
For our northern NJ friends.... two ideas. Plan A) Go a bit out of your way and meet us at I-84/Rt 17. Plan B) Take either I-78 or I-80 west and meet us at I-81. My only concern for the second alternative is if you dont get an early start, you could hit some morning rush hour traffic.
the general route is I-81 --> Skyline Drive --> I-64 --> Blue Grass Pkwy --> I-65
we have a starting point.... we can work it from here.

It was great meeting everyone. I didn't recognize the guy who made the last post ...anyone know who he is?? (come on Gino, you know we have to bust your chops...)
Anyway, ...If the NJ folks took plan B, ...once they got on I-80 (or?) heading WEST, ...the traffic would be going the other way (to NYC), ...correct?? ...Chris's other plan, ...Rt. 17 to 84, isn't a bad idea either... ...we'll figure it out...

North Jersey checkin in! Our plans are to meet in Harrisburg, PA on I-81 near JCT. I-83 and I-76(PA TPKE) aproxiamately 8 a.m if we leave home at 5 a.m. We need to discuss with Ralph a rest stop area along I-81 where we all can meet and pick him up. How does that sound to all of you guys? Time is always adjustable..we can leave whenever. It takes us approx. 3 hours to get to Harrisburg. For the people coming from further away (i.e. Canada) let us know what your plans are so we can possibly meet up with you also in our trip to BG!

I looked at the map and this is what I came up with,If you don't want to go out the PA Turnpike.I looked at the map and this is what I came up with.If you want to go down Rt 81,than go Rt 68, Rt 79, Rt 64 and Rt 65 into Bowling Green. Map Quest had printed going the PA Turnpike. Let me know what you think. Going down Rt 81 seems more direct.

The best place to meet is at Rt 81 in Carlisle. The PA Turnpike crosses Rt 81 at Carlisle. I will investigate a place to meet in Carlisle. Probally at a truck stop,if that is OK. Received my FLP headers yesterday. They will be installed early in September. Talk to you later.

Carlisle area seems like a good meeting place, ...the NY and NJ groups will have about the same ETA. Ralph, ...anyone else from Lehigh Valley coming along? Dan, ...since you live near Carlisle, is there any place you might recommend (ie parking) the groups meet at. (...and are you going to BG?). If we do decide/agree on Carlisle, I suppose we should start 'fine-tuning' the route (through Skyline Dr.), ...to approximate where our first day of driving will bring us (or where we want to be) for Tuesday night hotel accomodations...
Anyone else coming along through this vicinity (Maryland attendees?) reading this post, ...jump in, ...we may as well do this together...
I'm hoping to make Bear Mtn. this Wednesday...

Ther are other people from the Lehigh Valley going, but they are not SSOA members and are leaving on Wednesday.
I was at Carlisle yesterday, looking for a place to meet. Here are the directions, going south ob Rt 81 from Harrisburg. Take exit #17(Carlisle RT 11). Stay on the right side of the exit ramp.At the end of the ramp, turn right. Immediately get into the left hand turn lane at the first traffic light. Turn left at the light. Straight ahead is a SUNOCO Conveniance Store. Everyone can fill up with gas and get snacks or whatever. We will be right there at RT 81 to continue our trip.
How does that sound to you all.
Ralph

I forgot to mention in my previous post about bringing walkie talkies along for the trip. They sure come in handy. I have a Motorola Talkabout. They seem to work pretty good. If anyone has a Motorola Talkabout that is coming on the Caravan, let me know what channel and code you will be on.

Ralph, ...most of us from NY have the Motorola Talkabouts as well. We usually use channel 6, ...subchannel 9 (6-9) since one of the guys has a '69 SS, ...any channel is fine though.
