It was just 8 months ago that our Son enlisted in the Air Force, seems so long ago now, but today he leaves for basic training. This is our oldest child and our first to leave home. Mary and I are torn between sadness and happiness that he is going. This will be a great move for on part as he will be trained to be a jet engine mech. Mary and I know that this will help him find that he can achieve greatness, I only hope that he knows how much we will miss him. Sorry for the rambling, just wanted to share this and ask that you wish him luck and happiness... thanks guys..

Ralph

We talked about this at Hebron-know exactly what your going thru, felt the same when our son left for the Marines. You'll be excited at his graduation! Good luck - just wait for the first letter after basic.

My wife and I are empty nesters, with our two boys out building their own lives, and have gone through the same emotions.

You have to be proud that your son joined the military. It's great training, and there's nothing better than serving your country. [Cool]

We wish him great success. This is a difficult time for both child and parent. My son is married, but our daughter still lives at home. I dread her leaving, but it must be.

I remember you told me he was leaving when we spoke in Ohio.

Best wishes to him, I am sure you are very proud of the path he's chosen. Wish him every success and hope he always will be able to do things he enjoys.

Congrats to the whole family. [Big Grin]

I want to thank all of you, Garner left about an hour ago, it was tuff to deal with. All of his friends showed up and it got pretty emotional. Seeing him being driven off will never be forgotten.

I showed him your replies and he wanted me to tell all of you thanks for the good wishes.

Mary and my daughter are hardest hit, time will heel this but I do not believe anyone can really understand a mothers love for her son. Got to go now time to offer my shoulder again. Thanks guys, keep it safe.

My youngest boy went into the Army about a year ago and it's been a great experience for him! He has changed in ways that I never imagined at the time, becoming more responsible, respectful, and admirable than I would have thought possible for someone his age. We're lucky 'cuz he's just up the road at Ft Sill in Oklahoma, so we get to see him alot. We're so very proud of our son for serving his country during these troubled times. It's a huge concern to have a child in the military right now, but it's also a privilege and an honor.
