I had some plans this last weekend to change the oil on the SS and wax the Caddy and my work truck. Seems on Friday night the wife tells me we are going to Stratford,Ontario to see the play "Romeo and Juliet" on Saturday night and the musical "My Fair Lady" on Sunday afternoon. I am not into this kind of entertainment and sitting in those seats for 3 hours each show was terrible, especially with zero leg room! I even missed the "Brickyard 400" race that I was plannin g on watching! A long traffic delay at the border coming back. I guess the thing that really makes me mad is that I had these plans all week and at the last minute she thew this at me!

Too bad we (you and I) didn't have advanced notice. The Stratford Festival is about 30 minutes from my house, and at least we could have tried to connect and do a cruise, or some other car thing, to ease the pain. Posts: 2359 | From: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada | Registered: Jul 2001

As a retired college literature professor, I love to attend plays, but one should not have to sacrifice the Brickyard to do so.

thought you might stop by for a cold one on your way home last night. I did mention it to Kathy.
You guys have to do something with U.S. customs. I'll bet you got right into Canada with no problems. Right? The U.S. is slowing it down to a crawl at your side. Posts: 5558 | From: Windsor, Ontario. Canada | Registered: Feb 2000

Brian we had no problems going into Canada on Saturday Morning other than a bit of a wait at the bridge. We took the Blue Water Bridge coming into Canada and took 7 along the Lake Huron coast and drove thru Grand Bend.Had dinner in St.Mary's last night then the road 119 to a few other small towns and ended up east of London and jumped on the 401. My brother in law said that he will take that Crown Royal you have,if you still want to get rid of some.Yes ,getting into the U.S. took a little time, only 1 hour this time.I had my brother inlaw get into the truck lane that moves the fastest.

It was very hard for me to sit there. The comfort in those seats went away after the first 20 minutes. It was like going to a craft show for me! Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

We go a couple of times a year. I've learned that "anticipation" is important so I try to make sure we plan and/or have tickets months in advance for maximum effect .... and I do usually end up enjoying it myself.
A little culture is good .... we wouldn't have sour cream or yogurt without it

"Romeo and Juliet" and "My Fair Lady?" I agree with Teri ... Ack ack! Boring ... especially the Romeo and Juliet part ... much ado about a young lady running off with her lover ... like you HAVEN'T done it yet?
Now if you went to see, "Six Women with Brain Death, or Expiring Minds Want to Know!" or some other really funny play like that ... that's different. Heck, when I went, they even served beer at intermission!
If ya' gotta' go to a play, guys ... take the offensive and get tickets to a play YOU want to see! It worked for me! ... and she'll probably think you're wonderful for suggesting a play in the first place. Be advised, there aren't too many plays in actual theaters that deal with cars, tools, or action things, so be creative and find one you might like to see. You'll never uncover a play like, "Winning a NASCAR Race at Darlington" in a theater, but you CAN look for a "naughty comedy" that is enjoyable to all (hopefully).
Caution: If your wife or G/F really HATES the play you choose, then DON'T DO IT AGAIN as a repeat could lead to assault! Inadvertently throwing her in jail for objecting to the play of choice by assaulting you in public is NOT the way to her heart! Find another "artsy" thing to do with her that doesn't result in a week of the silent treatment or a perfectly good drink being tossed in your general direction.
As a good fallback, try a dinner cruise down a navigable river. In Portland, we have one and dinner cruises are available. Beats "Romeo and Juliet" any day, plus you get to EAT. If you have only non-navigable rivers around or only small lakes, DO SOMETHING ELSE SHE MIGHT LIKE! .. assuming you can FIND something she likes that you can stand to do semi-frequently. If you can't, then you probably don't HAVE a wife or G/F anyway ... too bad dude ...
You women out there, please ignore this post. It's not intended for dissemination to the fairer sex. We men are pretty transparent and our needs are simple; we wouldn't want you know any more about us than you already do ... it's just embarrasing ... Or cursed....it's a glass half empty/half full thing. Any given situation depends on how a person looks at it.

lol
It was not as bad as a hangover, but maybe more enjoyable if the seats had more room and they were not 3 hours long each. My rear can only take so much! The My Fair Lady at least had a fast paced music to go with it that helped. Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002
