The SST was conceived after we took a trip to a local salvage yard to locate a second set of door panels for our SS. (It's dangerous for us to go junk-yarding together - we get ideas.)
The SST started as a front-impact totaled, '95 6-cyl Bright Red convertible. We had it cut across the floor at the shifter before it was delivered, and the evolution of the SST ensued.
The SST has an enlarged storage compartment for cargo in the trunk (gas tank removed), custom axle, full size, white, 5-spoke 17" SS wheels, and electric trailer brakes.
Tongue weight is about 50 lb. Total weight is 1250 lb.
The rear seat area has stock Camaro seats & trim in it with the intention of being able to sit in it for parades & shows.
The front end is a VFN 1-piece, racecar front clip, fused to a modified, ASC, look-a-like SS hood, that flips forward for access to the cargo and full size spare tire area up front.
It has a genuine SS rear spoiler with 3rd brake light, and a European export rear Camaro fascia w/fog lights that function as extra brake/hazard lights when stopped.
The top is fully operable (powered) to provide shade. It has an Optima battery, that charges when attached to the car via a connection near the custom hitch hidden in the SS's bumper. There is a power supply to next to the each of the seats for electronics (laptop, cell phone charger) or 12v appliance (fan, cooler, etc.) hookup.
A hard tonneau cover is used during transit to protect the top, cover the cockpit, and keep the interior/cargo dry.
It is not finished. There's final fiberglass/ body work and fit/finish stuff that needs to be completed, but it is trailerable in its rough form. We don't have the money to finish it right now, but because so many people have asked about it, we've decided to bring it to B.G. with us this year.
