Was just curious as to opinions on the use of 3M products (specifically the swirl mark remover and hand glaze) in conjunction with Zaino.
If I already have a few coats of Z5 on and I wanted to use the 3M to get rid of a few small scratches and swirls, what would you recommend for prep in between 3M and continued Zaino application afterwards? (my concern is with the Zaino bonding properly after the 3M application) Am I worried about nothing or should certain steps be taken?

I wish I could help you. I use 3m Finesse it to buff out small scratches and go over the surface with Megiuiars products to get rid of any swirls.I don't know about Zanio products.

I've used a number of different scratch removers with Zaino. Each time I use a scratch remover, I reapply Zaino on the area where I've used the scratch remover, in the proper sequence, starting with the cleaner and surface prep. My feeling is that the scratch and swirl removers will remove the Zaino finish as well. I'd recommend not using any other brand polishes, glazes, or waxes before applying Zaino, as there will probably be a bonding problem.

DanA used the 3M Swirl remover for dark colours on his Z06 and loved it. He'll give you details I'm sure. Posts: 5558 | From: Windsor, Ontario. Canada | Registered: Feb 2000

The 3M (or any other for that matter) will say "body shop friendly" to indicate that it doesn't contain anything that will leave a residue. I've used the swirl mark remover with reasonable success.

I also have used the Finesse II and swirl mark remover. I followed these instructions and used the buffer method. Just remember to wash with Dawn after you are done with 3M. http://smiley.tzo.com/fbody/zaino/docs/zaino_swirls.txtPosts: 671 | From: Saskatoon SK Canada | Registered: Feb 2000

I wouldn't wash with Dawn too often. I have used the 3M swirl remover on both the Z06 and the SS. The SS has about 65 coats of Zaino. I did nothing other than a good wash (with Z7) and then apply Z5 with ZFX. I think it looks great. Also have done that on a few other cars that I have detailed. The swirl remover is great stuff.

Yes you can use the 3m finesse it with the Zaino. Most people use it before applying the Z2 or z5, but you can go back and use it. Try not to use the glazes though. After applying the finesse it, wash the are with Z7 and you should be free to apply more Zaino

The 3M will remove the Zaino and you will have to wash with Dawn to remove the oils from the 3M before beginning with Zaino again.
