I recently bought a cedar workbench from Scottys for $20.00! Some guy there actually put it together. I picked up a Columbian vice from Home Depot at $20.00 too. Now I am looking for a nice, tall, stool/high back chair with a good cushion and a back rest would be icing on the cake. So far I have been to Home Depot, Lowes, Office Max, Office Depot, Walmart, Target, Bed, Bath and Beyond and Sears. I found a descent chair at Target for $59.00 and a really nice dark cedar wooded stool with a comfy cushion at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $59.00. I think a chair without wheels would be better for stability reason when working at the bench.
Any ideas?
Would you stain or paint your workbench or leave it natural?
I'll post pics when I'm finished with my dream garage.
Thanks for any feedback.

Nice purchase. You might consider getting a piece of stainless steel for the top of it. Sometimes you can get a spare piece from a metal shop or even an old stainless steel table from a restaurant supply/salvage store.
These come with or w/out backs on them and there are several designs. The California Car Cover Co catalog shows all of them, the website doesn't: Posts: 7198 | From: Near Portland, Oregon, USA | Registered: Feb 2000

Ray, ...as Teri mentioned, if you can find a piece of stainless, it would be a good idea, ...especially since cedar is a 'softer wood' As for somthing to 'treat' it with, ...not sure. I lucked out and got an OAK butcher-block bench, ...I used "Boiled Linseed Oil" on it after belt sanding, ...not sure if this will darken the cedar too much. ...and I do have a 3'x3' piece of stainless on it too. As for chair, ...I have one from Craftsman, with a back (similar looking to what Teri posted) yet has a lever underneath that raises or lowers it (utilizing some sort of piston). Very durable, with dense rubber and NO wheels.

I used a think piece of pressed board, (just like peg board but no holes) on the top of my two work benches. I figured I could do all sorts of things on that and replace it when it gets messed up too bad. Stainless sounds great!! I never thought of that.
