A buddy from www.f-body.com named Gordon Arnold has started a company selling longtube headers based on the grotyohann (spell?) headers. These headers seem really cool.

Take a look at Proven Performance Concepts website when you get a sec!

I am installing PPC longtubes this winter along with new cats, y-pipe, slp loudmouth and quad center exhaust with rear fascia. Should be a lot of fun [Wink]

Thanks for the intro, J.R.

Hey, Y'all......

If you are concidering headers for your LS1 F-Body, these PPC systems are the TOP ticket.

Not only are the headers themselves based on what has been known as THE BEST header for LS1 F-Bods, I have worked directly with the manufacturer to re-engineer them for full emissions fitment for ALL 3 different versions.

Additionally, I am using ONLY Random Technology Cats. Not the cheaper (and less flow) Car Sound units. The Y-pipes are fully mandrel bent and fit nice & tight up in the chassis.

Please also note that I am offering the ONLY billet aluminum fully adjustable suspension components with TEFLON LINED rod ends. NO RATTLES.... these eliminate all suspension deflection AND are nice and quiet. Please take a look.

Thanks, for your time & space. Please let me know how I can help you.

Should be lots of fun. A second guy will help out alot for when putting in the headers.. It might take a bit to get used to the sound but I don't think you'll mind that.. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Yeah Curtis.. no kidding ... having someone hold them on the underside is a big plus. I had an old car buddy help with my hooker shorties on my 98 SS.. and that was kind of a pain.

Which RT Cats are you using, what is the flow on them. Do they have a pic of the headers, CATS and Y-pipe. Are they designed to all go tegether so that it ties into the existing system or will there need to be some customiziing to get them to fit.

I'm not going to "attempt" to answer for Gordon, but from what I understand the cats are the standard Random Technology cats.. and they will fit perfectly with no modifications. Also, I believe you can use stock cats if desired, or of course no cats with the offroad y-pipe he sells.

The only thing I am aware of that he doesn't currently offer is the offroad/road conversion pipes to switch between nocats/cats similar to FLP lt headers.

hey Gordon,
first off, i would like to say that those are very nice looking headers. couple of questions: Are you planning on getting CARB certification in the future? How is the ground clearance on those long tubes?

thanks,
Nate

Hey Gordon, you going to stop over when JR and Natalie are here? Are you going to wear a pink cow robe?

Those headers looks interesting. You shoudl bring catalogues if you have any when you visit. Suspension parts are needed for my SS for when JR buys the Z06!

Oooops, I let the cat out of the bag. Who else is coming?? Winter party at Dan's. Hawkeye, will you tell JR we have plenty of room please??

No rumors, you will want it when you drive it. Then I have you. We can scalp your return tickets at the airport and that will lower the cost of the car. You can drive home. Then I can get stuff for the SS or maybe in the spring a new one!

Have fun with the install JR, BTW...how's a guy your size going to fit under the car in the garage to get this done? [Big Grin]

I plan on doing something similar this winter, provided Santa comes through!

On a basically stock car, lid, MAF ends, loudmouth, what would be the expected gain in RWHP and RWTQ from just adding the headers, hi-flo cats and Y-pipe that is in the package, without any other mods.

OK..... Answers to above questions....

The standard cat will be the Random Technology 8100 ceramic cats... flow is about 500cfm per cat, according to R.T. The new super-high-flow Metallic Cats from R.T. are available by request. They are even smaller & flow even more .... they are also almost twice as much $$.

I do not have a fully fabricated Y-pipe with cats installed, yet. However the non-cat pipe was set-up with the cats in mind. If you choose a y-pipe with cats... it will be fully assembled. NO FABRICATION is required to the parts OR the vehicle. Y-pipe fits right up to the stock "cat-back" exhaust.....or any that is designed to fit to the stock y-pipe (SLP, Borla, Corsa, etc).

Ground clearance is NOT AN ISSUE. The Y-pipe is tucked up nice & neat. And, the header collectors are up nice & high also. I have SLP SFCs and the car is lowered 1.5". the pipe & header do not hang any lower than the stock y-pipe.

CARB certification...not currently...maybe in the future. Main problem is that the cats are further downstream and won't heat up as fast at first start-up. Soooo.... may not be certifiable anyway.

TQ & HP gains...... I have not dynoed the combo yet (the closest dyno is a 3 to 4 hour drive ...one way). HOWEVER, these are funtionally the exact same headers as the old Grotys (same mfg., same jigs) with the emissions & y-pipe added. Typical gains for other peaple using them are in the 20ish HP & TQ range on a stock set-up. BTW, J.R. has agreed to dyno his rig once the headers are on.

If you look around... you'll find that these headers (Groty's, as they have been known) are touted as being #1. Power, fit, quality.

Any other questions.....just ask.

The first production run is IN PRODUCTION now. And orders are being taken, there will be incentive to order from this first run....email me from the website if you are interested.

Thanks,
Gordon Arnold

Gordon, where do you live. There is a dyno at Martel Racing in Manchester and there is always New Englan Dyno in Worcester. Dean and Rob are great guys there.

Erin, you and all the game are cordially invited to drop in at my house anytime!! The Fbodfather has had an open invitation for a long time but never comes by!

Hey Dan....in all my asking around, the closest ones that anyone could come up with were in Worchester & south of Boston.

I'm up near Ossipee.

I'll get in touch with Martel ... I've heard the name before, I think they are customers @ Bavarian too.

The Worcester one is NE Dyno. Excellent folks there. I have been there a couple of times.

I stopped into Martel a few times. Had a nice chat with the guy who works there. They have a nice dyno setup.

So, J.R., do you know when you plan to install the headers. I do like the idea of buying a "complete" package from a single source that all is designed to go together. I'll probably have to wait until next winter but I DO like the these headers. If they perform as good as they look, I definitely need to put these on my car.

VERY COOL J.R.!!Yeah I like Grotyohann Headers too. And if these are bassed off of them, they should be damn awesome! I wish I could get Grot's for my LT1 SS. Which is paid off in 3 months! wahoo!!!!

Anyway, congrats to PPC for taking the step. Have a great 2003!
