Morning all. You're not gonna believe this.
Co-worker buys a brand new TB last week. Vehicle has 500 miles on it. Driving home from work yesterday....hears a "pop" then smoke starts rolling out from the hood and under the dash. Gets the vehicle to the shoulder just in time to see flames coming from the defroster area. Jump out, trys to open the hood...too hot. Helpful motorists try to extinguish the fire with retardants..no luck. The TB fully engulfed in FLAMES within 3 minutes from shoulder stop.
Question: Whats up with that?!! Any similar situation...or insight to this problem? Should he anticipate a problem with the dealer or the General?

Insurance should pay then subrogate back against GM if it's a manufacture's defect. NHTSA has records of all complaints. Good place to start checking.

Hopefully he got GAP insurance! It almost sounds like a Manuf. defect. That sucks. Just glad he was ok.

And the editors at Autoweek thought they had problems with their Trailblazer!
Glad to hear nobody was hurt.
I can relate to this type of sistuation. I had an underhood fire start on me some years ago in the middle of nowhere. It was my fault -- I misrouted some hoses which ended up sitting against the exhaust manifold. Anyway -- the man upstairs must have been watching over me that night because a state trooper happened by literally seconds after I pulled off and he was able to extinguish the flames.
