My son took his S-10 SS to the track last night to see if the mid length headers and electric fan we installed last weekend made any improvement. Right off the hiway with a hot engine the truck ran 15.20 @ 90.6 MPH. He was running the ET Streets that he had for the 1979 Camaro and they are taller than the stock tires.60' time still suffered. The very next pass without allowing the engine to cool netted a 15.11 @ 91.24 MPH and a 2.175 60'. He was in the 15.2's all night and the 60' just got worst with the track getting colder. His worst 60' time of the night was a 3.0 after he iced up the intake for 1/2 hour even let a bunch of air out of the slicks.I think this truck will see high 14's with a better track in the form it is in now.Just wait until we get the 1.6 ratio roller rockera and a 2600 RPM stall convertor. He was very happy!:thumb: bowtie

The 4.3 seems to be a great motor if you put a little work into it. Great torque potential. The rockers should help alot.

His goal is to get the truck in the 14's on all engine with the only engine internal mod to be the roller rocker arms.Right now he spanks stock 5.0L and 4.6L Rustangs! Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

Originally the 4.3 ( aka 262 c.i. ) was a small V-8 as I had one in my Chevy Monza back in the early eighties. I don't know if it is an earlier version and same specs of the 350 but it is a nice engine.
Glad to hear you and your son had a great time Greg and I am sure when the roller rockers go in the e.t.'s will come down too. Good luck.

Isn't a 4.3 the exact same specs as an ealier 350 just missing two cylinders?
You are totally correct.The 4.3L V6 has a 4" bore and a 3.48" stroke,just like it's big brother the Chevy 350. Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002

That is amazing.... I had no idea those little 4.3's had so much potential.... They are a bullet proof motor, I never see anybody replace them...
Sounds like you and your son are having fun! Posts: 1045 | From: Seattle, WA | Registered: Nov 2001

Oh yea... forgot to mention. Greg your son should get the SLP exhaust. I was going to put the one with "duals" out the back on my xtreme. My truck was similar to your sons.... black regular cab with a sport side box, 4.3 and bucket seats. It was my first new vehicle... I do miss it a little. The truck has a 3" single exhaust with a Dyno-Max muffler. Has a V8 sounding rumble at idle but on hard acceleration, you can tell it has a buzzin 1/2 dozen for an engine! Posts: 5682 | From: Dearborn,Mi. | Registered: Feb 2002
