Speaking of OnStar......can you make it available on the GM performance cars, please?

I don't want to have to buy a 6-cyl or truck/SUV to get it.

They dont put it there cause of the weight. [Wink] The lighter the car, the better, lol.

But yeah, would be nice. It's amazing what the OnStar system can do.

I don't want to have to buy a 6-cyl or truck/SUV to get it.

It will be on the C6 Corvette. Actually, we wanted it as an option on the Fbody and C5 Corvette, but there were issues early on in the program as to the microphones....

By the way...that black box you see on the roof of some GM cars is not the OnStar antenna...that's the antenna for XM Radio. The OnStar antenna is mounted (usually, if not always) to the rear window or the side rear window and has a small mast.

As to OnStar? I love it. Expensive? Perhaps for all the services....but I use it all the time on my company vehicle and once you have it, you will always want it. Not only has OnStar saved lives, but it has helped apprehend carjackings, kidnappings, and provided emergency services to people having heart attacks, strokes, etc....not to mention that if your airbags deploy, OnStar will contact you thru the system (assuming it is still in one piece) and send emergency help.

(do I sound like a commercial or what?!?!?!?!)

(and then there's the time(s) when I accidently left the keys in the car -- and one call and the car was unlocked........)

(that was a bonus commercial.........)

ROTFLMAO! [Razz]
I have had only 1 experience with OnStar and it was a total joke!
Last month, I picked up a rental DeVille in St. Pete's and spent a couple of days in Tampa. Arrangements were made to drop the car off at the Ft. Lauderdale airport as i was spending the rewst of the rest of the week in Palm Beach. The bottom line was that I had to drive from Tampa to Palm Beach... and had already mapped out the direct route across the state. So... just for fun, as I was leaving the Tampa area, I called OnStar to get my best route to Palm Beach. What a joke that turned out to be! [Eek!]
I got some ditz-brain on the line who was able to look at her GPS readout and tell me where I was and what direction I was heading. Very impressive! [Wink]
So after I told her where I was heading and she proceeds to give me this convoluted route thru ORLANDO, which would have taken me almost an hour out of my to the north, and then another hour coming back south! So... I suggested an alternative route, based on my highly developed mappinfg and navigation skills! [Razz]
... and she said that the alternative route was OK... after she spent a good few minutes trying to find the route #'s on the map!
On Star might be a good thing in an emergency, but I tell you what - the "icing on the cake" just ain't there yet!

Best regardSS,

Elie

You are right about the XM but on the Trucks the on star antena is on the roof of the vehicle [Frown] . Looks like crap in my opinion.

The On Star is great we /she uses it all the time when its available in the car she has.We used it 3 times once in a night to gat to a resteraunt we wanted to get to.And as to locking the keys in she olny mentioned once using it but knowing her its been more than that.

It will be a welcome feeling when we go to Maine to see a friend to have that option with us [Smile]

Supposidly the engineers are working on ways to make it smaller and body color.... remember this is the first generation of this stuff. I'm seing more cars today without antena's for the radio its only a matter of time for this stuff also....

I read in the paper the other day that big brother is going to start using the way we walk to catch bad guys from satellite and surveillance videos. Supposedly it is as unique as fingerprints and is 80 to 95% effective in IDing someone. I'm with Derek, who cares if you get lost. (Actually, I've never been lost, just temporarily disoriented.) More driving is better, unless you're late and the wife is starting to do the slow simmer. [Wink]

Duuude....I get lost Waaaay to easily. I'd love it on my SS. Plus, you can use it as a phone, and if you lock your keys in it like people mentioned before, also it can disable you vehicle if it is stolen. I've gotten lost way too many times...even on my way home from work, lol. Good to see it will be available on the C6. [Cool]

I agree about having Onstar for help when needed but don't care for XM Radio. I will put the cd's in the changer an dlisten to those babies or the radio but can't hand XM. My buddy has it in his 03 Silverado and feels 50-50 about it. [Razz] [Wink]
