A few months ago I purchased a black Welly 1:18 2002 Camaro SS diecast. I've always wanted a 1999 model, but the 2002 is the first time a 4th gen Camaro has be made in 1:18 scale. So, the next best thing was to modify the 2002 to try and made it resemble my 1999 SS as close as possible. I finally finished the project this weekend, and the results can been seen at the following link.

Very cool die-cast, and a Very good job on the up grade of the die-cast. I've done some in the past, very easy to put alot of time into them. Looks great tho, been looking for a 96/97 SS die -cast.. no luck so far.

Very nice!!
Thanks for the feedback. The many days of rain over the past few weeks helped keep me indoors so I could finish the project.

Here's some of the secrets;
Exhaust Tips - pieces of my son's leftover round plastic trees (the things the plastic model parts are attached to when you buy a model kit), glued to pieces of wood, then shaped, hollowed and painted chrome.
Stripes - cut from leftover vinyl decal material used to make the Camaro logos on my real SS.
Wheels - took a digital photo of my real wheels, printed them out in 1:18 scale, and cut them out. Cut out every other spoke of the 2002 10-spokes, then glued on the printed wheels, added the three dimensional detail with white glue, and painted them chrome.
SS & car club logos, & license plates - took digital photos of the real things, printed them out in 1:18 scale, cut them out, spray painted them with clear lacquer, and glued them to the car.
Now if I could just get 1:18 bottles of Zaino, I could really make this baby shine. Posts: 2359 | From: Waterloo, Ontario, Canada | Registered: Jul 2001

I seem to remember seeing a white/orange striped smaller version 97 SS diecast car at a hobby store. I think it was a Testor's, but not sure. For what it's worth.

I wasn't talking about the Z28. I was talking about the 30th SS, made of metal. I noticed the hood scoop on it right away. I can't remember the scale, but it was smaller than 1:18. I swear I'm not joking about this. If they have one when I go back, I'll get it for you.
Not sure if this is a plastic model car or what size, but here's a source: scale car availability

Found another source, possibly the same car as above (stock # is almost the same) for cheaper. 8221 1997 Camaro SS Coupe 7.00 1/25 97 model SS linkPosts: 577 | From: Aiken, SC | Registered: May 2002

Yeah, I got caught up trying to inadvertantly hijack the thread without even commenting on how good of a job it turned out John. VERY nice. But is that trick photography going on there with the window decals? I didn't notice them on any other of the pics.... Posts: 577 | From: Aiken, SC | Registered: May 2002

No trick photography. The window decals were an afterthought (don't tell Teri. ) I was impressed with the quality of the 1:18 detail I was able to get with my Epson printer.
