I recieved this e-mail from a friend who is on the Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour now.Sounds like one of the cars got damaged. Here is his message.

"BTW: We ran through several thunderstorms in Louisiana this afternoon. The cars were a mess. Then when we got to the show, in Lake Charles, the sun came out and it was 104 degrees in the show lot, with a dew point of 70 degrees. I hate that kind of hot weather, it just saps your energy. I sweat like a faucet just cleaning off the car. Then we had a severe thunderstorm with a possible tornado come through the area in the evening. Other than that, we're having a great time! As always, the best part is hanging out with your friends. That's what makes any event special, anyway.

Also, on the interstate between New Orleans and Lake Charles this afternoon, a Hot Rod Magazine staff member was driving a brand new Pewter Hot Rod Camaro (on loan from Berger) and hit a drive shaft that fell off a garbage truck in front of him. The car in front of him hit it first, and it suddenly appeared spinning into his lane at the last second. He hit it dead on, and it damaged the Camaro so severely, they may have to total the car! The driver was OK, but pretty scared. It's a wonder the car didn't flip, as the drive shaft took out the cross member, ripped through the transmission pan and broke the tranny case. It then flipped up and pushed up the floor pan severely causing some serious structural damage. It then exited from under the Camaro and hit the front bumper of a pickup truck. Man, what a mess!

Hey, it's not just a Power Tour, it's a (tropical) adventure!
The journey continues tomorrow, it should be interesting!"

WOW! It sure is scary driving on the highway. [Eek!] I drive I-81 to and from work as well as Penn State everyday, and you cant imagine how stressful it is to drive. What makes it worse is that there is construction as well, let alon PA's normal crappy highways [Roll Eyes]

that poor Rod rod Camaro. hopfully it is not going to be totaled. but from the sounds of it, the damage is probably too extensive to repair.

Holy Moly!

I've seen that live once. I think it was a
'69 427 Tri power Vette. It was in 1972, and
he was shifting from 1st to 2nd the shaft
came up between the 2 seats, right through the
floor and out the roof. Could have split the
driver or passenger in 2. They both walked away.
