I've had my car a litte over a year now so I thought it was about time to find out how fast it can go. I drove to a deserted military air field and floored it. It was still climbing when I ran out of numbers on the speedometer!!! I let off when the needle passed 155mph. Did not take very long to get there either... damn these cars are fast! I'm gonna do some intake mods in a couple of weeks (CAI, K&N, lid, bellows, MAF) and then I'll try it again with a little more "scientific approach"... time how long it takes and maybe have a buddy measure with a radar gun or something. What a rush

If you take off the top end limiter - I'm told it was tested at a race track in Quebec and topped out at 176 MPH - I believe it Posts: 5558 | From: Windsor, Ontario. Canada | Registered: Feb 2000

The speed is limited based on the tires on the car. Z-rated tires are not "unlimited" speed.

I think it's 160 - as Jeff said based on the tire ratings. But with a Hypertech you can remove it.

Pretty close! Actually, it was 171 mph at the Blaineville banked oval track in Quebec! If you check out the Montreal F-body Association's website, there is a reprint of the 1999 "World of Wheels" (Canadian publication) article comparing the top speeds of a '99 Firehawk and F150 Lightning. Even the F-bods equipped with Z-rated tires came with a speed limiter (approx. 160 mph) which can be removed, as verified by Umberto. For those wishing to read the article, go to the Montreal F-body website: http://www.mfba.com and click on the "Articles/Information" tab in the right hand margin. Then click on the "Interesting Articles" tab on the new page. The 4th one down from the top is "World of Wheels - Firehawk vs. Lightening" article in English. The info dealing with top speed appears on page 2 and can be accessed thru that link on the page. Interesting stuff!

Sounds like the top end of the Corvette which was tested last year I believe by Car and Driver and the top speed reached 174. Gotta love it.
