I bought the wife a new '03 Trailblazer (4200 Vortec I6) a month ago, and want to change the oil this afternoon (1000 miles). Per the book at the store, it recommended AC/Delco PF59. Got under the truck last night, and it was delivered with a PF58. Called the dealer, and they said PF58 is what they use, but compared PF58, PF59 and PF61 side by side, and there is no difference in diameter, length, or threads, and went on to say that using a PF59 will NOT void the warranty.
Anybody in the know can confirm this perhaps? Couldn't find a Trailblazer MB. Thanx.

I have read that the 59 is the same as the 58 but with an anti-drainback valve. Not familiar with the 61. Do a seach for PF-59 on ls1.com and ls1tech.com for more info.

Ditto.
I would use a PF59 if you can find one or the PF58 if you can't.
If you were to use a Mobil, K&N, Fram, Pennzoil, etc. filter, they can't void your warranty so don't worry. As long as it fits correctly, there are no problems.

Use the 61. I work for GM parts and did some research on this for one of my dealers. At any rate the I6's use(d) the 58's. For the new northstar motor used in the XLR and SRX they needed a filter with greater burst strength so they came up with the 61. As stock is depleted the 58's will disapear and GM will transition to the 61. Depending on when your mid size ute was built they now come from the factory with a 61. I was going to say almost the same thing MM did. GM changes the design of oil filters sometimes as I went through basically the samething with my Blazer a decade ago. I think at the time I was using PF51 but that was changed to PF52. More than likely an advancement to a better made filter, i.e. casing or filtration.
