I didn't know about this until someone who's much more on the inside than I turned me on to it. Apparently, the story goes, GMMG is turning out a bunch of these monsters...complete with roll cage...something like 650 HP! The number of these I heard was 32. Anyone else add information to this?

Sounds SSweet indeed! All it takes is money! Now if I could find a late model with a blown engine that would be an interesting project. Posts: 5558 | From: Windsor, Ontario. Canada | Registered: Feb 2000

...These engines must be similar to those being put in the "phase III" ZL1's, (rated at 600HP) I'm not sure how many of the 69 (2002)ZL1's were phase III's. Considering the price tag was approaching 100K , ...the pool of buyers is somewhat limited... (I even heard of a Nickey version at around 125K !!) There were a few of these at Carlisle this past weekend... Awsome Camaros...

All the 427s going into the ZL1s are built by Earnhardt racing, so you they are done right!

the thing I'm wondering...are the 427's built by DEI part of the 69, or is it a separate group. I thought the ZL-1's came with the Z06 engine, brakes and wheels...plus some other goodies like the Penske shocks. The 427's, as I understand it, are basically all out racers! Complete with roll cage. Apparently Dennis Barker of Berger had one in Canada at the Camaro Nationals. Have you seen the burnout by the red car on Bergers site? Supposedly, that's one of these monsters.

The ZO6 engine is a 350 that produces 405 HP. I do not know if these are the same ZL-1's that were part of the 69 that were made. Greg may know the answer to that.
As for the roll cage it does look like that one is in there. If it is for looks or for a certain reason only the producer knows, but with 650 HP it is nice to know that there is something there for protection.

the 427s in the ZL1 is not the same as the Z06 engine. These are the C5R racing engines the same that was used in the racing corvettes. It is a $25,000 option on the ZL1 super cars, as well as the roll cage and line lock. I have seen numerous ZL1s and the cheapest one with the C5R engine was $87,000. This was a unit which was factory black, so there was no additional cost for repainting. These are very unique cars and will have a special place in the history of the camaro.

The base ZL1's came with the ZO6 motor. You could add options to any of the 69 cars, Another motor, roll cage, line locks, just about anything.
They are going to build some motion cars here sometime not sure when, but Berger has been getting NEW Z28's from around the country. That shoul be a awesome car, they are also going to bring out a Hot Rod truck. A regular cab 6 speed with a LS6 motor. That thing was awesome..
