Well, you guys and gals, got my first taste of bad quality control yesterday. My 2000SS with only 2500 miles on her, was put on a lift Monday, the undercarriage is eat up with " rust ". When the car was sent to me 2/15/00 SLP must have driven down a road covered in road salt. Evidently this must have spayed back under the car. Now all the bolts are covered in rust, even the starter housing, which is zinc is eat up. We sprayed everything down with an anti-rust, this will at least slow the process down until I can get it back up to wire brush and paint. Also found the right front sway bar bushing attachment bolt cross threaded with a three quarter inch cap between the bushing and frame. I am taking photographs of this to post. Anyone else that does not get his car up on a rack very often sure needs to take serious look at this area. KICKBACK\ 2000SS Coupe M-6 MOO4340

wow, have not really noticed anything unusual or wrong with my undercarrage. hope you can get it all fixed up, hopefully under warranty. don't know if the dealership will recognize that as a warranty issue though. good luck.

Sorry to hear about the QC problem MOO. Some people don't take into consideration of the weather which at that time the undercariage should have been cleaned after driving through road salt. Not that I want to start something, or defend SLP, but why do you figure it was SLP that caused the "defects"?

I'm with Hawkeye. Remember that the cars were trucked between the assembly plant and SLP on open car carrier trailers. If your car was on the bottom in the wintertime, it could easily have gotten salt on it.
I would think that this is more indicative of lazy and sloppy dealer prep.
Did I mention what I think of dealers!!!

Sorry to hear about the salt damage ...I have heard a few people complain about salt damage from their cars being driven north of the border prior to delivery...in fact on one of these boards, someone related a similar story to yours and said that GM offered a buyback...Good luck! They don'y use salt in Montreal. All Camaros rust on the bottom, just from sitting at a dealers lot. Look at the rotors of any car with disc brakes in a showroom-the rotors will rust in one day just from the humidity.

Took the SS to a local garage, salt damage is what they said. The specks were still covering the underside of the car, especially on anything painted blue. Since the car has never been in the rain, probably has compounded the problem. Normally would have been washed off. We are pressure washing the underside this weekend, and spraying on some kind on anti-rust. The sway bar issue has still got me guessing, what else?

Hey, I agree with you, could have happened at the factory during the loading and unloading process. The darn things did kid moved around a lot I'm sure. Someone should have caught the problem, yes even the dealer!!

Yeah. got that too, also the transmission is covered in a white powder. Comes off easy enough and we did spray it down with WD-40. The rear axle,like all automobiles have the normal rust on the housing. This is actually corrision around the starter case, crossmember bolts etc;

Mine had a normal amount of surface rust underneath, one of the first things I did was take it to "Oil Guard" and had it sprayed. No rust at all under there and it's 5 years old!
