When your headlights are on, and you touch
the dimmer switch that controls the dash
lights - is it hot? I went to adjust the dash
lights while cruising tonight and the switch
was real hot! Probably normal - but just thought
I'd ask.

If i remember correctly, mine is somewhat hot. I think it's b/c of the backlights behind there. I noticed that on other controls (such as ont he steering wheel). Also the ASR & foglight switches get pretty hot. It's just normal. [Smile]

Not odd at all.
Your dimmer is nothing but a coil of high resistance wire with a contact that slides along it. The more coil between the feed line and the contact the higher the resistance and the dimmer the lights. Higher resistance also causes more heat. So the dimmer your lights the hotter the switch will be.
Also your dash lights get very little convective cooling being inclosed in the dash panels. So the brighter your lights the hotter your dash panels will be.

I noticed that too. I have sence turned down my interior lights for 2 reasons. One so I wont burn myself and curse infront of my girlfriend. It can hurt if you dont remember that it is hot. Two is with all the lights lower inside, I can pay more attention to what is going on around me outside. In southern California, that is a big help.
