I must be middle aged. Got woken up at 2:30 this a.m. by extreme pain in my back and side.
Spent over 8 hours in the hospital - yep - Kidney Stone - what a treat!
Oh well, part of growing up I guess. Feeling much better now.

I wasn't walking them for sure! And Greg, right you are about breaking out in a sweat! At one point I was in so much pain I actually was sick to my stomach - luckily I had a bed right next to the bathroom!

Know how you must feel. Been through several bouts with kidney stones. (had them blasted 5 times). I have been to a urologist and a nephrologist. The nephrologist discovered that I do not out put enough urine in a day and that my Magnesium levels were low. LABOR was easier and less painful.
Good luck. Hope you pass it soon and you don't have any more problems with them.

Glad you are OK though Brian. My dad has passed 4 of those suckers, but non since he's been 50+ (he'll be 60 next year) so it's not necessarily a age thing.

My brother suffers from kidney stones. He's had them blasted, gone through surgery and says he suffers daily. Seems his body doesn't process minerals properly. He's only 27 and has had the problem for several years. Now that he's out of the Army, we're hoping the reduction in stress will help him get better.
I hope your experience with them is short.

Hey Brian, sorry to hear about your suffering. My friend had one last week while on vacation, and he is only 23!! I've been scared to get one ever since my father had a bad one years ago.

I'm sorry to hear you had to go through that pain, I had a gallstone at 19, so unless I was old before I hit 20, you've got nothing to worry about... Besides you're only as old as you act... (I think you're doing just fine!)

Sorry to hear about your pain, talk about a rolling stone, those suckers can really hurt, and the cranberry juice will help, i just recommend adding a little vodka to it. Mend well my friend....

That sucks, I hate those d*%n stones. Had a few blasted and removed myself. Age makes no difference though. Had 3 of those suckers before 20 years old.
First time was just like you. Woke in wee morning hours feeling like I had a white hot fire poker going right through.
Can't sympothize enough with what you dealt with. They are unbearable.
Best Wishes

Ouch!, ...Hope you're feeling better Brian. ...Water ,water, water, ...drink all you can. It's funny (not so funny really) my dad was just in the hospital Sunday/Monday for the same thing.

As stated before, drink at least 2 quarts of water a day... the cranberry juice can add up to diabetes in a few years. Lots of water can also aid in avoiding gout, second in pain to kidney stones and child birth (tied? I'm not sure). Water intake helps the kidneys to process serum uric acid, the cause of gout (been there done that). When you are urinating at least once an hour (drinking water, not beer ), you know you are on the right track. Good luck.

Thanks all for your good wishes. Sounds silly bet it is appreciated. I do drink alot, but I'm making it a new habit to add an extra glass of water at every meal and bedtime! Like chicken soup - it couldn't hurt. Posts: 5558 | From: Windsor, Ontario. Canada | Registered: Feb 2000

Sorry I am late about hearing of your kidney stone Brian. I hope all is well with you now and believe me I know first hand how it feels as I went through it last year.
Take care.
