Hmmm...maybe. We've been kicking around the idea of getting something utilitarian and reliable to replace Aimee's car. What kind of timeframe are we looking at?

If you are SERIOUSLY interested in buying a GM product I have some in the driveway certificates. You can buy a GM vehicle at 4% over our cost (employee) plus you keep all rebates etc. Let me know....
Alomst forgot the most important part must be used by the 1st of sept. But the incentives now are really good... plus the loyality rebate of $750 or $1000 bucks through the end of this month.

Have you heard any rumors on the incentives after the 1st.You know with the switch from 90 to 60 days is a Bit** but we should have the 7500 before it goes back.

Yeah I'm not too crazy about 60 days... I'm not ready to give up the snoop deville! They have been keeping it a big secret on what the next round will be... they are trying to focus on whats at hand and to close out the month strong. But as soon as I hear...

Trust me folks, this is the real deal! MM sent me one a few weeks ago, it saved me $7K off sticker after all rebates etc.. were applied and it is even better now because you can get the GM loyalty rebate as well. That one wasnt available when I bought. So that would make it worth $8K off a $36K vehicle. Add that to the finance rates right now and it's a no brainer if you are even remotely thinking aBbout a new vehicle!

Yes, we are planning to buy a new Cavalier in the next couple of weeks. To be used as a daily driver. Any help would be great as the person buying this car and making the payments is a college student.

I'm not looking right away, but in about a year I'll be looking at ordering a Silverado. The problem is Chevy doesn't currently offer what I want: a regular cab, shortbed Z71 with 6 liter engine and manual transmission.
Hopefully it will be offered in the 2004 or 2005 model year.

I have "heard" from reliable sources that we want to do some damage to ford as they launch the new F150. So I think things will get interesting.... although it may apply only to 1/2 not 3/4.

Sorry but that truck will never be built... at least with Z71. Regular cab is dead and is less and less of the total build every year. The market is going to crew cabs, even exteneded is slowing... look for a true 1500 crew cab in Jan.

Aggh! Don't tell me that. That was my last glimmer of hope from GM, save for the Corvette. Well, that sucks eggs. Another GM bean-counter decision that will cost them a sale from me. I mean, even if it doesn't have a manual tranny or 6 liter engine, how tough would it be to build a regular cab SS truck? I'd even buy a GMC front end to replace that goofy looking front on the Chevy to make it look halfway decent. I would never buy an SS in its current form, but that's just me. GM can't entice me enough to buy their stupid looking SS truck the way it is now. I think the reason people like to buy the crew cabs is that it's V8, RWD (or AWD) and can fit a whole family into with a large "trunk" space and can tow the boat on weekends. You know, like the ~cars~ GM should be building anyway? Hello, McFly?
I've been doing a little unofficial survey around work since the amount of newer Ford and Chevy trucks out in the parking lot are about the same number. Everyone I've talked to who's bought a Chevy truck recently has had issues with it, and broken stuff, things that stopped working for no reason, etc. And only one person that has bought a Ford truck in the same ilk has had a radiator hose clamp come loose on them. That's it. Even one guy who says he's a die-hard Chevy truck man said he got a Ford Explorer for his wife and has had zero problems with it in the 18 months that he's had it. Hate to say it, but impress me with a truck I want to buy, GM. I'm still waiting...

GM is not making the correct decisions anymore as far as I am concerned anyway. Just my 2 cents worth.
Next vehicle will be the Monte Carlo SS, but that is down the road a ways. Have to watch it right now with the economy the way it is. Posts: 2841 | From: Westland, MI | Registered: Apr 2003

Like I said regular cab is dead... thats not the bean counters thats consumers voting with their dollars. They are not buying regular cabs anymore... look most reg cabs are work trucks... thats it. A SS reg cab isn't out of the question but highly unlikey you would see a manual same thing with the guy that wants a Z71.... not gonna happen. The bean counters don't run the company but they do have to report to someone...share holders they need to have a return on their investment.... IE make money, not please a small % of motor heads.

Seems like the rumors of the death of the regular cab pickup have been exagerated a bit. My dream truck is (almost) on the list! Now, if they add a Z71 option and keep the manual tranny, I'm in! At the end there are estimated prices, seems there may be a typo in the Silverado's, I can't imagine a pick up for the same price as a Tahoe, I'd guess the estimated price should be $27,500, not $37,500.
Anyway, there IS still hope.

I think there will be a reg cab SS. But as I said regular cab is slowly dieing. The chances for a SS are greater then a Z71. Plus I think Z71 is overrated. Unless you go offraod a lot the ride is stiffer.... on a pickup. I didn't like my Z71 extended cab very much...or the ride at least. On an avalanche the Z71 rides better then the regular suspension... go figure!

I used to own a '96 shorty Z71 with 350 and 5 speed. That truck was very comfortable for 14 hour drives while on vacation. The ride was firm but smooth on the hiway, just a trifle bouncy on rough roads unloaded. The ex has it now and I miss it dearly. When I buy a new truck I want it to be as much truck as I can afford and fit in my garage.
The largest engine available in a half ton with manual tranny is the 4.8 liter. I'll settle for that if I have to. An extended cab or long bed won't fit in the garage and would high center too easily on the trails. A short wheel base manouvers better in parking lots, too. This truck would be my new daily driver and the SS would become a weekender.

Can the driveway certificates be used with a supplier discount? We were down at the dealership last night looking at a Cavalier for my son, the dealer said that the driveway certificate can't be used if I used my supplier discount. They both add up to about the same amount. I work for IBM and we get a supplier discount from GM on up to 2 cars/trucks a year. Used it on my SS and was planning to used it on my son's car.
