Anybody got some good first date ideas besides the typical dinner/movie combo? I can alway's fall back on that, but I'd like to put some thought into this one. Any suggestions would be welcome, I like to get other opinions. If it helps, I'm 28 and she's a couple years older then I am.

I went on a first date last night and did the dinner/movie thing but that was b/c it was the girl's idea. ask your date what she has in mind or what she enjoys doing... you could always do the puttputt/go kart thing if she is into that stuff...
and by the way, try not to be too nervous. first dates always make me nervous as hell b/c you really don't know what to expect. the dates that come after are much easier and fun

It really depends on the type of girl she is, and what you'd both enjoy. I still would say the dinner first. Give s you a chance to talk, and if ou dont have anything to say, eeat, hehe. But after that, maybe a walk in a park, or if she's into sports, go rollerblading....or what bdub said, mini golf. Also an idea- go to a pool hall and shoot pool if that's possible in your area. Just depends what you two are into. I'd also say do dancing (not clubbin'/ghetto). Posts: 2651 | From: Enola (Harrisburg Area), Pennsylvania | Registered: Jan 2002

Pool is a great idea. If she does not know how to play you can "break" the physical awkardness, by showing her how to shoot, hold the cue, ect ect. If she knows how to play, make it competative (if you are good or not) and put stakes on it. Once the good natured bantering and taunting starts, it is all down hill. Also ask unusual questions. What is your most favorite vacation is one that I like to ask. It opens them up, and you can judge what they like. They usually will go on for a while on this, also bringing up new subjects to ask about. I dont do this for a living. That will be $9.95, send cash or money order. Have fun and be a gentleman, that is the best way.

1) mid-afternoon: pick her up in your bada$$ car & take her to the mall; walk around a bit, then buy her some shoes -- Manolo Blahnik or Jimmy Choo shoes are a good bet....
2) next take her to the (pre-arranged) spa for a dual massage & seaweed wrap
3) off to your place for a dip in your "vanishing edge" pool, followed by canapes & Cristal champagne; wrap her in a terry bathrobe that she can keep!
4) back you go into that bada$$ car of yours & it's off for cocktails -- preferably a semi-quiet place where you can chat
5) dinner!! show off your knowledge of prime beef, succulent lobster, & fine wine!! (that high school French class comes in handy here...)
6) an apertif perhaps? Frangelico is superb!
7) the night is young -- whisk her away, again in that bada$$ car of yours, to the hottest salsa club in your town
8) when the club closes, suggest a decaf misto at whatever coffeeshop is still open
9) as the sun rises, walk her to her door, take her hand in yours, kiss her fingertips, & then speed away in that bada$$ car!!!
10) by the time you get home, you will have 42 messages from her!!!

Looks like it is going to be pool afterall. I'm not sure if you get a check or not on this one.

Frankenmuth has their car show the 1st weekend in Sept. since you're now far away Then its a nice town to people watch. Also the German festival is in several weeks also only problem is it runs the same time as BG

If she's someone you've known and hung out with in the past, do what you've always done together and had fun doing. The romantic tones will naturally show themselves.
If she's a new aquisition, try to do things in public places where she'll feel comfortable and you can use "people watching" as topic of conversation in the event it goes dry. Usually, movies are seen as a waste of time because you're trying to get to know the person. And don't overwhelm her by having a lot on the agenda. Personally, I love pool, putt-putt, go-karts and bowling....
The BIGGEST POINTER: ask about HER and make sure you don't talk about yourself all night . (I've denied many 2nd dates for that one...)
Good luck and keep it simple! (a single flower, unwrapped, couldn't hurt: just make sure the thorns are removed if you go the rose route) Posts: 64 | From: Marietta, GA | Registered: Jul 2002

I agree with the comment on the movie as a first date: it's definitely a bad way to "get to know" someone.

Next time, please be sure to preface the title of your thread with "Dear Sneezy:"

I'm just sitting here trying to reconcile the fact that someone who was terrified to ask a girl out is here dispensing dating advice. What next: suggestions on the best heads/cam package for an SS/Hawk?

Eve: I'm not green, I definetly know not to center the conversation on myself, besides I WANT to hear all about her . I don't really know this girl at all so there is plenty to talk about. I just wanted to do something different for this girl.
Ed: Don't now if she likes cars or not, but the Frankenmuth show this weekend is out of the schedule for me anyway.

Do you have any horse farms? Riding horse back always seems to make an impression. Or maybe a horse drawn carriage through town? It will definately give you time to talk. (I know it's a little sappy, but it works, if she doesn't mind the horses...)

That's laying it on a bit to thick. I don't have horses, only horsepower There are a lot of horse farms right by where I live, but I've never riden.

Ok, what about an interactive comedy club similar to "Who's Line is it Anyway?" We have one here in Atlanta called Dad's Garage Theater, it's a riot because they pull audience members into the show. Or just a regular comedy club. They usually serve dinner too.

Well, we are going out to dinner at a good place then over to a small bar to shoot some pool and hang out. Picking her up at 7:30, so that gives me time to work out the jitters at the gym after work tomorrow. Don't know what it is about this girl, but she really sets me on edge.
Just got in from cleaing out the inside of the SS and conditioning the leather seats.

Well, back from the date. We had a early start. Dinner was OK. Then she proceeded to whoop my ass at pool and darts. It was the weirdest date I've ever been on, not that it wasn't fun, but I've never been on a date with a woman that strong before. It was cool. She asked me to call her next week after the holiday, so we'll see what happens.
