I was taking my nephew for a walk today and we saw a SSR there. Talked to one of the dealers. They got two of them and sold them for $10,000 over MSRP! [Eek!]

Yup. I don't doubt that one bit. The truck doesn't qualify for ANY incentives OR GM employee discounts. It is what it is.....

$10k over sticker??? when heck freezes over. might as well just light the $10k on fire since it will depreciate off the car the moment you drive off the lot..

Sorta cool truck but in a while it will end up just like the PT Cruiser.. a curiosity sitting on a dealers lot..

yeah, the dealer said "you won't see too many of these around." I said, "only in the rear view mirror of my Camaro."

I just don't understand this vehicle at all! [Confused] The list price in Toronto is CDN$69,995. This is for a 4700 lb. pickup truck with only 2-seats, can't handle worth a darn and can barely get out of its own way with 300 HP! Sure - it's a convertible - but let's get serious about the pricing! [Eek!]
A few weeks ago, there was review of the SSR in one of the Toronto papers. The writer alluded to it as "a sports car in truck's clothing" and suggested that people think of it as the next Camaro! [Frown] I gave him a piece of my mind in an e-mail. [Razz]
The upshot is that a couple of pages away, in the automotive section, GM had taken out a full page ad advertising 1.9% financing on new '03 C5s. Of particular interest was the Z06 - with an advertised price of CDN$69,998!! [Smile]
Now which would you rather have? [Big Grin]

Best regardSS,

Elie

My thoughts exactly when I read the World or Wheels review on the SSR.

This will be another T-bird like niche vehicle where they'll be laying $10,000 on the hood to move 'em out a year from now.

Product development money that should have been spent on the 5th Gen Camaro [Mad]

Time to vent (again!). When you have tried and true and recognized brand names like the Camaro and Firebird, who in their right mind would come up with a product that has 1) no brand name recognition, 2) a premium price and 3) no practicle value? How many Viper, or even Mustang owners will trade in their cars and come over to Chevy and buy a SSR? How many Corvette owners or Camaro/Firebird owners will buy an SSR? But just think, if GM had put the money into a 5th generation F-body, they'd come to market with 1) brand recognition, 2) a proven (albeit small) market, and 3) a price competitive alternative to the Mustang. I give D-Chrysler full marks for innovation with the Viper and Prowler, a trend GM is now following. But guess who is #4 in vehicle sales today, passed by Toyota? Fad vehicles are not where it's at in today's market. [Frown]
