Barbie Deemed Threat to Saudi Morality

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - Saudi Arabia's religious police have declared Barbie dolls a threat to morality, complaining that the revealing clothes of the "Jewish" toy - already banned in the kingdom - are offensive to Islam.

The Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, as the religious police are officially known, lists the dolls on a section of its Web site devoted to items deemed offensive to the conservative Saudi interpretation of Islam.

"Jewish Barbie dolls, with their revealing clothes and shameful postures, accessories and tools are a symbol of decadence to the perverted West. Let us beware of her dangers and be careful," said a poster on the site.

LOL - They'd be better off to beware of the US military if they keep up their crap. It's no wonder these people are 2000 years behind the rest of the world... and since when is Barbie a Jew? Isn't she from Malibu, California? [Razz]

I can relate. My sister had a Barbie doll, when I was a young lad. I was so impressed with the doll's 'assets', that I thought all grown-up girls were supposed to look like that. [Roll Eyes] Boy was I surprised. [Eek!] It ruined me for life! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

PS: Luckily, I found my own Barbie doll 33 years ago, and married her. [Wink] [Cool]

Spent an evening with a fellow that had been a missionary in the Middle East for many years ... he had some great stories and perspective. Quite different from what we get in the media here.

One of his stories ....on the plane flying into Saudi Arabia the women are dressed and made-up "Western" style. When they set foot on Saudi soil they are in full "vieled" dress.

Apparently much the same takes place behind closed doors.

In a twisted sort of way I agree though ...shock value comes from pushing the envelope ...what happens when there is no mor envelope [Roll Eyes] [Confused]

Don't start confusing me with names this close to Bowling Green ...Marion has been very diligent in driving "John and Karen" into my permanent memory. [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

Addendum:

You might also want to look into how Islam is doing in the Western world ...

http://saif_w.tripod.com/explore/fastest_growing.htm

...the response to the rise of immorality in western culture is not limited to Middle East fanatics.

BTW ... no, I don't believe Islam is the answer .

I agree poSSum that it just isn't limited to Middle Eastern Countries. There are many others as well.

But picking on a Barbie Doll is a little pathetic.

By the way I am still looking for my Barbie. Any takers out there......LOL. [Big Grin]
