When I was in School we were taught all fundamentals of every Country and type of Governments and society therein. Be it a democratic, autocratic, monarchy, communist, socialist, tyrannical, or any other of the time.
All aspects be it good or bad, whether we won a war or lost, how people were treated, the accomplishments or defeats should be taught. I don't know what is taught in schools anymore nor do I have any children to say what goes on but I feel everyone should be educated completely and totally and have an idea of how others are too.

What's that one right we have? Oh yeah, freedom of speech. I'm not sure about high school. But we're encouraged in college to state our views adn beliefs, as well as challenge others! What is this nation coming to is right! Sheesh! I'll leave it at that. Posts: 2651 | From: Enola (Harrisburg Area), Pennsylvania | Registered: Jan 2002

I hear ya Dan. Unfortunately all of our rights guaranteed under the first 10 amendments to the Constitution are slowly eroding and disappearing.
I won't get into anything political here but Big Brother is looking over each and every one of our shoulders and we need to do something to change it for the better and hopefully soon.

First of all,...I'm not sure if my post will be directly related to that CNN article, but here it goes.......
I'm in college right now. I'm attending the University of California, Irvine. Since 9/11, I've noticed a big surge of liberal opinions all over campus, with conservative opinions nowhere in sight. I am no fan of either group going to their extremes, but I am completely fed up with listening to my professors spouting off against anything that is even remotely republican/non-democrat. Even in classes which had nothing to do with politics, the professors simply HAD to say something, or dedicate half their teaching time to give us their opinions on how President Bush sucks, and is doing a piss-poor job (not in those exact words). Everything the Democrats do was wonderful. Anything the Republicans do is crap, according to my educators. There is absolutely NO balance at this University, and I'm sure there are a thousand schools just like this, brainwashing their students. In fact, when the war in Iraq began, some "art" students put up a marker-board soldier out in the courtyard, hung markers off of it, and had people write what they thought about the war, or Pres. Bush onto the soldier. Remarks such as "Bush is a plant" and "make love, not war" were to be found. There were some uglier remarks, and I wished so much to write something positive,...but decided someone would probably wipe my comments off, and say something ridiculous. I just shook my head, and walked by it. I read a lot of them, and I can honestly tell you that there were no "intelligent" comments present. After all, just because you can be liberal, doesn't mean you can't express your opinion in an intelligent manner. All I saw were ugly slurs. The school didn't seem to provide any logical explanations for why liberal thought was superior to conservative thought. All they had backing them was idiotic bashing, and nonsense. So many times in class I wished to get up, and shout at the top of my lungs in a desperate attempt to drown out their idiocy,...but I'm not exactly a brave soul. To think I have to endure this for another two or three quarters, makes me want to bash my brains out.

Jana you certainly had the courage to speack your mind in this post and had every right to and I for one respect what you had to say.
I am middle of the road, not Republican or Democrat as some ot their ideologies I don't agree with.
I was growing up when Vietnam was going on and the "Make Love, Not War " regailia was going on. I am a firm believer in using force when it is needed and at that time I feel that was the wrong thing to do.
On the other hand we cannot be the worlds Police Officer. I for one believe that charity begins at home and we need to be taking more care of our problems here but still keep a watchful eye on events going on around the world.
To many people here are losing their jobs, healthcare is a major issue, Money that can be used here to is being sent overseas, deterioration of all aspects of society is rampant, including the rights that were fought for all of us.
I didn't want to get into anything political and am not putting blame on anyone or anything, but I feel that we should all be helping each other instead of other countries that end up spitting in our face after time.

Who's getting political? This is just discussions from various viewpoints. You don't have to agree, but you can't criticize an opinion either.
We're getting soft as a nation by allowing our freedoms to be picked off one by one. Some kids have uniforms they have to wear to school to keep from expressing themselves as individuals. To me, that's a sure sign of where we're headed. I remember back in grade school I was in disbelief when I read about Communist kids having to all dress alike for school. I thought then how bad it must suck to be a Communist. But now it's kinda scary. I thank God everyday that I don't have kids. I have enough worries.

Thanks SS RS Z, I agree with you. I too believe that you can't always resolve everything by just discussing it. What the people at my University don't seem to understand is that there are people in this world who don't WANT to agree with you, and will not listen to reason. You can talk peace all you want. If they want money or power, there is no reasoning with them. They want what they want, and they will get it if you let them. They will do it by force, and saying things like "make love not war" isn't going to stop them from running over you with their tanks, while they point and laugh at your mangled body as they leave it in the dust, on their way to conquer your country. (sorry..kinda graphic. Just trying to make a point. )
el ess1 - I grew up in a Communist country, and we didn't have to wear uniforms to school. We dressed as we pleased. The only time I remember wearing a uniform (blue shirt and skirt, with a red scarf around my neck) is on the anniversary of the Revolution. Of course that was in my country. I don't know how they run things in China, or Communist Korea. Who knows,...they seem to be a bit more strict over there. I know that's not the point you were trying to make, just sharing a bit of trivia with you.

Thank you Jana. You are a very bright lady and your ideals very well respected and I agree with you.
I just wish more emphasis was put here on the homefront. Not taking raises away from hard working individuals and using those monies for the building of a nation.
Consequently we have people dying of Aids, unemployed, poverty, jobs going overseas, deteriorating fundamentals, loss of rights, Big Brother looming, and who knows what.
I only wish others could see how our country ( although I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else ) is falling apart. Yes we do come together when danger hits home as it did on 9/11/01, but we need to get the Government to open its eyes and see and take action here.
El Ess1 I totally agree we are getting soft as a nation and need to stand up to the fact that not enough is being done here and hope that soon others will realize this and changes brought about to help all of us.
This is a great discussion we are having and thoroughly enjoyed. I respect all opinions from everyone and would never at any time lose my cool. Thank you for your words and I truly respect everything you have said.
