I go my 1st ticket for not having my front plate on. I was just 100 yards from pulling into the parking deck at school, when this Richmond City Cop pulls me over. I knew as soon as I saw the lights what it is for. He jumped out of his car and trotted to the front of the car. He did this little swirling thing with his fingering then pointed at the front of the car and started grinning. From there it just got worse. he asked me why I did not have a front plate on, I told him because I was not going to ruin the front of this car, I know I know wrong thing to say. I then proceeded to to tell him he was out of line for pulling me over for a non-primary offense. He started getting a little pissy. He came back with my ticket and told me I could go to court if I thought he was wrong. I told him he needed to find something more important to do than to pull people over for not having a front plate. I told him I could understand if he had gotten me for a primary offense then added that on, but it was not going to change the fact I was not going to put the plate on. He asked me to repeat myself, I told him I was not going to repeat myself and that if he nothing further to write me up for, I had to go to class, I would see him in court and to have a nice day. He turned around and walked away, I drove off.
Now I know I probably could have talked my way out of it with a lie. I know I should have just kept my mouth shut. I know I could have handle it better. However, I hate cops that make this into a game and play gotcha. The problem is though, I won't be able to goto court that day because I have a test. I could have it continued for another 60 days, but the ticket is a non moving violation which carries no points and is less than 100 bucks.

Well...i'll tell you one thing...you have guts!! hehe...I couldn't have done that...i would have said something like the others said...going to a car show, etc. Ah well....I bet if you go to court for something that small, the cop will not show up and you dont have to pay anything. Man, you got some big ones. that cop must have been steaming. You're lucky he didn't look for more tickets to give you. I finally put my front plate on, but I always got a warning when it was off...but I didn't bust on the cops that pulled me over. Posts: 388 | From: NJ | Registered: Dec 2002

Agian, it was his attitude when he started playing gotcha that pushed me over the edge. He was this young zit faced kid with braces trying to be funny by pulling me over. His mistake was he did it right in front the basketball courts and everyone was watching and listening to what was being said. I guess I kinda embrassed him in front of allot of people. He will win this one by default, but it does not change the fact I'm not going to ruin the front of a 30th SS because this state feels every car needs a front plate.

I don't want to ruin the front of my SS either. Since I have to have a front plate, I purchased an SLP License Plate Bracket. It bolts to the underside of the nose. Doesn't look bad. The grille is never drilled into. I have heard of some people mounting their plate on the front air dam. That might be legal in Virginia if you follow certain criteria. I still wish I only had to have a plate on the rear. Good luck with the ticket situation. He should have just given you a warning.

My car came from NY, (also a 30th SS) and has 2 holes drilled in the front for a plate, i have the 2 factory screws that hold the bracket on, painted white installed, and although they dont look bad, it irks me every time i look at it and know that if the car was sold new here in PA, it wouldnt have ever had those holes! I'd never put a front plate on a camaro either.

The cops are pretty picky around here as well, due to a lot of ricers breaking the laws. Since I have to have a front plate, I've tried to make the best of it. I made up a custom plate cover with a dimensionally correct SS logo located where the SS would have been if I had the SLP grill. It's unique and is a good conversation piece.

The big problem I see is this guy will definitely be looking for you again since you mouthed off to him. You as much as told him how to find you when you said you had to go to school.........so now he knows where and when to look for you.
But I also know how aggravated you are. I had the same thing happen to me when I lived in Ohio. I was heading down an on ramp to the interstate. The cop had been in front of me prior to that and had passed the on ramp, and when he saw me turn onto the ramp, he backed up and came down the ramp and pulled me over on the Interstate. After that I put my front plate on because I knew sooner or later I would get stopped again.

I agree, I only drive the SS to campus on really nices days, otherwise I drive the Blazer. I live about 30 miles from campus, so its not like he can get me down here. I realize he is going to be gunning for me. So I won't be driving the SS up there for a while. I found out this morning that it is a $85 fine. Alittle more than I thought it was going to be, but a small price to keep the front of that car unmolested.

In Oregon, frequently a "fix it" ticket is issued and all one needs to do is show an officer or the court the corrected situation (plate installed, stickers on, proof of insurance - whatever the ticket is for) and it'll get signed off and reduced or dismissed.
In your case, perhaps you can re-install the plate (since the holes are already there) and show the court.

I learned a long time ago (not soon enough either) to keep my mouth shut when a cop pulls me over.
The last time I got pulled over my wife and baby were with me in the Hawk, and I had no plate on the front. Lucky for me the cop has a Vette and sells Zaino Guess where I get my Zaino from now Posts: 2502 | From: Binghamton, NY | Registered: Feb 2000

Sounds like to me this cop did not have anything else better to do. He should have been out trying to catch a hardened criminal instead of writing you a ticket.
Don't understand why we have to have a front license plates on cars anyway. I have never heard of a cop chasing a car going backwards.
Also, seems to me, Virginia could save alot of money by not having to make the extra plate.

Just velcro one to the front of the airdam below the bumper and take a photo of it so you can see it clearly. Bring the photo with you to court. Show the judge that you wanted to comly and how you went ahead a put a plate on the front of your car. Just make sure the plate shows clearly in the photo. Then give the dlck cop a grin and say, "Have a nice day officer" on your way out of the courthouse after the judge lets you off. Yank the plate off when you get home and keep it handy in the car for the next time. If a cop hassles you, just say you forgot to put it back on after a car show and jump out and slap it on. No biggie.

I'v gotten a few of those stupid no plate tickets. I don't have a plate and don't plan on getting one. I took some real small suction cups, clear ones with some double sided tape and hung the plate long enogh to take a picture. I keep the picture around and it looks like i have mounted front plate. i have gotten both tickets dismised just with the picture alone. One of them i went before the court date and showed the judge. Didn't even have to see the cop again.

Similar story here too Kevin. While going to the NC Outer Banks a few weeks ago, 4am, MD State Trooper pulls me over, Wife and Son following in his car. We were less than 2 miles from home. Trooper says "ya know ya got no front plate" -- before I could respond, he says he has an SS also, and if he wasn't a Trooper, he wouldn't have one either Lets me go with a warning Didn't ask if he sold Zaino.
