Author Topic: Transmission went today BigBlack2002SS New Member Member # 2018 posted                    Driving to work today, shifted from 4th to 5th at around 3,000 RPM and all hell broke loose. Grinding, wouldn't go into gear. I let it out to neutral, and it was fine. Tried to ease it into 5th and it went, but popped back out. Then it wouldn't go back in at all. 1st through 4th are fine, though, so I nursed it to a local Chevy dealer who is going to look at it today or tomorrow. Ugh. Mileage - 36,500! So they time these things, or what? Good thing for the 75,000 mile, $0 deductible extended warranty I took on it! I'll keep you posted on the results. Anyone else have the T56 give up? [ 24. It would grind trying to upshift into 5th, and wouldn't downshift into 5th at all. I just saw a post about the shift pins on LS1tech. While the garage didn't say what caused it, they said the transmission was in such bad shape that GM wants them to put a new one in, rather than trying to fix it. Also, he said GM wants them to put in a new flywheel and clutch. It'll take a few days to do all this. I just hope it doesn't detonate on me again in 36,000 miles. (By the way, I have no performance mods on the car and don't abuse it.) Anyway, seems that GM is standing good on the repair without giving me any crap -- that's a first!
