I just went outside and there appeared to be 4 old war airplanes that took off from the Ford Motor Company Dearborn Proving Grounds (whick used to be Henry Ford's personal airport)that are circling the Ford Motor Company World Headquarters Building. There is a helicopter flying above them.I wonder what that is all about?

This was probably part of the National Air Tour. It was to start in Dearborn on the 8th and end in Dearborn on the 24th. A total of 12 planes from the 20s and early 30s were to fly a route that Henry Ford flew in 1925 to promote air travel in his Tri-motor. The length of the tour was 4000 miles. It stopped at 26 cities.

If you didn't get a chance to see these old planes landing and taking off you really missed something. Several of the planes were one of a kind. (only one of that model still flying)

Love my SS, but I'm also an airplane nut.

They covered all the cities they started for except for Kitty Hawk-Isabel kept them away. Should be a story in tomorrow's Free Press or News - it was on WJR today.

Cool. I live about 50 miles South of where they hold the Reno Air Races. During September there's always a mix of WWII fighters, F16s, F18s, F117s and an occiasonal B1 U2 or ?? buzzing around. Last year I was at my daughter's softball game and a perfectly restored B17 flew rigth over us!!! Some poeple next me siad "oh, look at that old airplane" It was a B17 dammit one of the most famous bombers of history!!!

Before they moved the F117s from Tonapah I used to see them once in awhile late in the afternoon around dusk. The arrowhead shape against the purple sunsetting shy was quite a sight. [Cool]
