One of the prettiest "funny cars" of the mid-'60's was this Mercury Comet campaigned by "Dyno Don" Nicholson. Nicholson, who had run super stock Chevrolets was quite upset by GM's withdrawal of all factory support for the racing teams in 1964. He found Ford Motor Company (and the Mercury division) to be very willing to support racers with proven credentials, and a long and productive relationship with the "Dearborn bunch" was formed. This car was one of the first "Touring" Mercurys, and did much to help generate the excitement that spawned the funny car classes.
