The other day on the way to work, they laye d a second coat of 'blacktop' on the highway (I-83) and for some reason stones were flying everywhere. All of a sudden, WHACK!!! SOmething hit my winshield. I figured it was a stone, as it happeneds before. WHen I go tout, I really didnt' see anything, but then again, my windshield was dirty.
After I washed my SS today, I saw a chip or whatever in my windshield. Do I need to be worried? Or should I just keep a close eye on this. It doesn't look too bad, though tit's maybe 1/2 inch or 1cm. My SS is a daily driver, so I dunno if I should get it fixed right away or not (if it can be fixed). Then again, I'm a poor college kid with a helluva lot of bad luck anywhere I turn
Here's the two pics I snapped. The ding is about 3 inched from the bottom of the windshield.
Oh and I snapped this pic tonight, not the greatest, but cool night pic:

It will eventually crack if left untreated-may take awhile but thermal cycling will crack it. Fix it by going to the local autozone or pep boy and get some w/s plug mayerial. Its transparent filler that will bond/plug the chip.

Thanks Jeff for teh reply. I was thinking the same thing with it being a daily driver and I will be driving it in the winter wehn it's cold out. Glass can 'expand and contract' too. Didn't even know they made seomthing like that. I'll have to go to Advance Auto Parts tomorrow if i get the chance.

One of the windshield shops can try and fill it with clear resign, it may work or not.
I had one in my 99 Suburban in 2001. I had it fixed, but the fix did not work. It's now 2 years later and it still hasn't spread or cracked any worse.
If yours starts to spread change the windshield immediately. The windshield is an integral part of the outer body and should remain in tact for your safety. If not, the next stone may go right through and cause injury. Keep an eye on it!

Dan it is better that you get it fixed or repair it yourself with kits out there that can do the job. If left untreated it could " spider " out on you.
Sorry to hear about the unfortunate incident and hope it gets fixed soon.

Thanks all. WHen I get a chance I'll be stopping at the auto store and see if they have a do-it-yourself kit to fix and just keep an eye on it. Doesn't look too bad, but looks can be decieving.

Check with your insurance company. Alot of them will repair it and cover the deductable (its a patch that will stop the spreading). Have had it done many times having trucks for 15 years they are magnets for stomes.Have it done at a good glass place though IMO they do the best job.
On a side note I hope you didnt throw out that cert its been extended till 1/2/04 .

put a piece of tape over the chip for now. that keeps the dirt and moisture out until its fixed. dirt will remain even when filled making it more visible.
Sorry to hear that. I 2nd the comments above about getting it fixed ASAP...
