Well, Monday night I went out with a friend and wehn we got back to her place we talked in my car for about 10 minutes, engine not running, but key int he 'on' position. When I went to start the car, battery was DEAD! I cant even tell you how many times my SS needed to be jump started, I konw at LEAST 10 times in the past 2 years. Could something be wrong with the battery? I mean, 10 minutes shouldn't drain the whole battery! All the other times were very similar occurences. I think a battery should last longer than two years. And is it covered under warranty? What woudl you suggest as a good replacement battery? Cost? Suggestions?

Also, I was on my way home from the doctor's office yesterday, and of course, I had to pass the truck repainting the street lines! SO I have a few splatters of yellow paint on the side of the SS. That's gonna be some work!

First my windshield ding, now this! Arrrrrgggghhh! My SS is cursed!!

Why the key in the on position - what were you running that the delayed key wouldn't work? ( Turn it on and then off and the radio and windows will still work until a door is opened, with the key in the ignition, right?)

I just had it in that position to keep the heat going for a little bit instead of keeping the engine running (hard to talk over loud mouth)

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the SS.
I just put mine to bed for the winter, and when I hooked up the trickle charger, I noticed the battery "eye" was black, indicating low charge. My car has 3300 miles on it, and I make sure to run it a couple times per month for 15 min or more...but these cars have some minor electric drain all the time - pcm, alarm, radio/clock ....I guess(?)

Something isn't right. Did the car turn over slowly when you tried to start it? Did the fan give you any indication that the amps were low? How long of an interval before you jumped started it?

My corvette does a weird thing related to the anti-theft control device. Just a thought?

Hmmm..when i turned the key to start it, it just gave an awful clicking sound, an indication like it was toally drained probably. Last time it was jump started was maybe a month or two ago. And that last time, after I jumped it, it was acting strange like idling REALLY low and fluctuation ( from like 500-1000rpm). After I drove it around a little ,turned it off adn turned it back on, it went back to normal. That last time was the only time that happened. [Frown]

Keep in mind that alternators are not designed to recharge a battery that has been severly discharged like yours.

First I would fully charge the battery (do it yourself if you have a good battery charger) then have it load tested by a someone like NAPA. That will tell you if your battery is bad. If the battery is good, then you either have a charging system problem or a slow drain when the car is not in use, usually caused by some circuit which is not getting switched off properly.

Wow, what a string of bad luck. i remember one time when i had my NBM '99 Z in the garage and my dad was painting something in brown, and accidentally shook out the brush on the nose of my car. thank goodness it was a water based paint and with a lot of coaxing, it came off. good luck, don't wait too long though to let the paint set in.

give it a good charge over night, there is such a thing as a bad battery, when your battery goes dead ,or disconnected, when you start it back your computer resets the idle and such its normal to take a little while . a slow drain on your battery is the worst thing for it and will shorten battery life ,if your not running it for a week, it will take alot of life out of your battery . put a battery tender on it when it has to set. he is right, your alternator has to work awfully hard to charge to full, its ment to keep up with use.you may need a new battery, top of lie would be optima .GOD BLESS [Smile]

That blower motor itself is on like a 30amp circuit plus with the key on there were other components powered up.The electric cooling fan may also have come on if the engine was warm.Dome lights may also have been on. When I worked in the dealer, you could not leave the doors open on any luxury car that had several dome/map lights for more than 10 minutes either without draining the battery.

Thanks all for the info and suggestions. I'll have to see where I can go to get my car charged and then have it tested to see if it's the battery itself. I really dont feel like shelling out the money for a new battery.
