Hey, not sure if anyone from the SLP board remembers me posting something bout my moms 72 Z28 and that i was helping restore it. well, the metal is all off the car now, and waiting to get gm lugnuts to put on diff rims to have the car glass-beaded. then just repainted and put it back together is all thats left after that. prob need to take the engine and tranie off and clean the crap out of em and redo the engine bay. heres a few pics of what it looks like now.

Looks like a fun job ahead of ya. Oh yes the second generation. The 74 Z28 is my favorite of that era. Loved the striping on it. I think one of our favorite members is going to enjoy seeing this baby get restored. She loved the 72 and had one.

Not sure of the engine year, but everything on the car is origional, minus a few mods. the engine is deffinately the origional. deffinately know its a 350 solid lift cam vette engine(has the corvette vaulve covers also). there was a few mods my mom did to it; changed the intake manifold, put a holli 650 carb(think they had a 720 or something from stock), had hooker headers put on with just little cherry bombs after them(exaust stopped at the end of the drivers seat and front passenger seat), 4.56 rear, and a hurst competition plus shifter. its only got like 24k miles on it.
thanks for the responses, i cant wait till its done [Smile]

Its not a vette engine all 70 thru 73 Z28s came with those valve covers the engine is a LT1 350 . Yes it came with a holley carb and there hard to find now and it had a alumium manifold . Are you going to restore it to original or with mods . Heres a few pics that might help -

going to restore it with the current mods, the intake minfold is prob gonna be hard to find, so until i get the origional parts somehow, will stick with the mods. i have the origional gears for the rear, so that solves one problem, lol. as for the vette engine thing, my mom had bought the car from the dealer in 72(or end of 71) and was given that info, but ya know how some dealers are with specs and crap. its still an origional owner car tho [Smile] thankx for the pics, the engine bay needs looots of cleaning, heh.

Fantastic vehicle to bring back to life! I had a '72 SS 350 but it was a shadow of the '69 Z28. Still a blast to drive and those 72 LT1 Z's are rock solid beauties!

Great car! Had an all original 74 Z28, but the motor blew so now it's only a matching numbers car.

quote:
looks like it has a 1968 or older intake manifold on it
As noted by the front oil filler tube.

quote:
the engine is deffinately the origional. deffinately know its a 350 solid lift cam vette engine
Seems to be a little confusion here. If it's a "Vette" engine than it's not original. It may be matching numbers but not original.
Only way to know for sure is to research the engine SN, from the front or side of the block. None of this is relative unless your going to restore it to original state.
In any case have fun what ever you deside.

I have these same valve covers on my 74 Z28.

The Vette LT1 and Camaro LT1 were the same except the Camaro was a 350 360 HP the vette was a 350 370 HP. Chevrolet would never let the advertised Camaro HP beeter the flagship Vette!

I'll deffinately post more pics when the sanding is done and everything. For the vette engine thing, already stated that apparently the dealer had been saying something of the sort when my mom was ordering it. The car has the origional engine, my mom bought the car brand new, and has always had it since day one. there are only very few things that dont allow the entire car to be OR. all components inside the engine are or, its just the mods i explained up top that are changed. thought it wasnt that bad till i started to take all the metal off to prepare it for glass-beading, lol. gonna be fun, but deffinately will be going to every show i can with this car once its done [Smile]

Brian,

Look for the build sheet. May be under the back seat or on top of the gas tank. The gas tank location is quite common and often will be there, even after this much time.
I had a yellow 70.5 with the RS front and side pipes. Still miss it. But then I miss most of my old cars!!
