News It looks like there won’t be any Pontiacs on the scene next year. GM has decided to discontinue factory support for the Pontiac nameplate, focusing more effort on Chevrolet.
Views The Pontiac teams were unprepared for this announcement and several teams had already built some of their 2004 cars.

GM RACING ANNOUNCEMENT .... Following the end of the 2003 NASCAR season, GM will consolidate its resources in NASCAR to exclusively support the Chevrolet Monte Carlo and further advance and solidify the dominant position enjoyed by Chevrolet in this series.
"GM Racing will focus its 2004 NASCAR program on the Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and will no longer race or support the Pontiac Grand Prix race car," said Doug Duchardt, director of GM Racing. "This transition will enable GM Racing to strengthen its Chevy Nextel Cup program, and also prepare for the future targeting Pontiac's racing aspirations."
According to Lynn Myers, general manager of Pontiac-GMC, Chevrolet will carry the NASCAR banner while Pontiac can now devote resources to developing future racing and marketing programs consistent with Pontiac's new performance products, including the GTO, Grand Prix Comp G, G6 and the GXP performance series.

I am completely surprised by this announcement. Pontiac has always strived for excitement. I just think the aerodynamics didn't help their cars very well as they are all powered the same.

... just as GM is bringing in a Caddy into the Speed World Challenge next season and not supporting the Vette.

It sucks that some teams already built there 2004 cars with the Pontiac body.I would imagine that they could still use them but there would not be any manufacture points if the car won.
