just got off the phone with the dealer. (my car went in for a clicking in the steering wheel and the driver window was clunking). they told me that they are going to have to keep the car longer than they thought because the steering was more of a complicated issue then they thought. plus they scracted my drivers side window tint. so now i am going to have to go back to the window tinting place and have them fix it. the dealer will pay for it, but it is a big pain in the rear.

the clicking in the steering wheel would only happen at dead center (the wheel straight up and down) The clicking would occur in the "dead zone" where the steering wheel would have a little "play" in it when rocking it back and forth. it would not matter if the car was on or off. you could feel the vibration in the steering wheel on each click sound. a friend of mine listened under the hood and said he could hear it in the engine bay. so i have no idea what it is. obviously the dealer ordered the wrong part or not enough parts (as usual), otherwise they would not have to keep it so long.

What was the reason for the steering wheel clicking?
last time i checked, when you guys first found the problem yourselfs, it looked fine. so i don't think that is the problem. what happens is, when the window is in the full up position and i roll it down, it sometimes makes a loud clunk sound as if the motor had be constantly pushing it up into the weather striping until i made it go the other way. but i know this is not the case, because i don't hear the motor constanly going. and it is the same when the window is all the way down. it will sometimes go clunk when i roll it up. it is hard to describe; it is like the motor is meeting resistance for a split second, then it goes up or down with no problem. just got off the phone with the dealer and they told me that the Intermediate shaft and rack had excessive wear on it and it was causing that clicking sound.
does that sound familiar to anyone? has anyone had the same problem? or does anyone know if this is a common problem?

I hate to hear that about them scratching your tint. This fall I took my car in for some warranty work and they ended up chipping the lower edge of my driver's side door on the lift by swinging it into the post. Now I have to foot the bill.

hmmm... that sounds like mine, except it only happens when turning the wheel to the left.

Thats why I do a walk-around at dealerships with the service manager and a digital camera. I also wash the car before I take it in. That way they know Im serious, and after the fact, there is no discussion about who did what damage.

I had washed and Z2'd my car right before it went in. When I picked it up I carefully checked out that the dusty rear 1/4's didn’t have any dents. Got in it and noticed parking brake didn't work (didn't hook it up), looked under it and my O2 harnesses were hanging down. But I never got low enough to notice the chip on the bottom edge of the driver's side door. You live you learn. Any ideas on how to fight this? I’ve tried GM Customer Service and Talking to the Shop Foreman, and Dealership Manager and he never called back. I hate to get a lawyer and lose money just to prove a point.

I noted this sunday exactly the same clicking in the same conditions (car has 15'000 mi). I planned to call the dealer monday. Do your dealer told they have to change some parts or just leave it alone? I had the feeling that the steering wheel is not tight enough because the noise is "in the wheel" like inside of the airbag.
