My son wanted to replace the rusted out body panels on my Suburban. He wanted the practice so I let him go for it.He replaced both right and left inner and outer rocker panels, the whole wheel opening and in front and behind the right rear wheel on the 1/4 panel and new metal in front and rear of the wheel opening on the left 1/4 panel.Turned out decent considering the weather has been cool and not ideal at all for doing bodywork. The 1/4's and rockers were painted with spray cans.I can't believe that the grey metallic matches so good from a spray can and is not even the correct paint code.

Ryan wants to be a bodyman/painter.I tried to get him into something better but he wants to learn how to do custom work.Mark, you better have a lot of food...that boy sure can eat.He is not really a beer drinker.I guess he got that from me ,but he will drink a couple. [Smile]

It is hard to see in this picture...but on the way down to the NEOCC Fall Classic, the truck that was trailering Ryan's Camaro inside an inclosed trailer, went thru a ditch and the trailer diamond plate inner fender punched a nice hole in the left 1/4 panel, bent the door and rocker panel. Now the car will need this fixed before comming out of the garage next year.I figured that he could practice on the Suburban and will know more how to repair the Camaro.

That looks real nice. Your son is to be complemented!

Boy those older Suburbans just don't fare too well on Salty roads do they? My brother in-law has one about your vintage and his is rusted out real bad too (He lives in Northern Ohio). You do see some solid ones down here in the South though. If your son wants to do Body repairs and painting, the North is a much better place to keep busy because there are a lot more accidents and corrosion damages caused by the weather than we have here in the South.

This Suburban is a 1990.Believe it or not it was one of the best looking ones we looked at for the money and also one of the newest.Hard to find one of these for real cheap even it is rusted bad. This one is fuel injected and actually gets around 17 mpg in the city.I got 10 mpg towing a 1650 lb trailer with my son's 1979 Camaro on the back and out of overdrive.I guess that was not too bad of fuel mileage for towing.I have seen many on for sale with well over 200,000 miles on them with the asking price of $3,500-$4,000. I guess even if rusty they will still tow a trailer. [Smile]
