Well, as some of you know, I want to sell the SS. IT's going to be very hard, and foudn what I think is a good deal on a replacement car. Dont worry.... It's a 1999 Camaro Z28 .... Red, M6, T-top, cd, etc. (55k miles) They are asking $13000 for it (KB retails it for $14k). I'm going to take it over to them for them to check out my car for trade-in value, but the guy said they will usually go with the Kelly BB value. I estimated from that it will be between $18-19 I can get. The private sale of my car would be only $2000 more. And would be a lot hard to sell, especially at this time of year.
So what do ya think of the deal? It will really releave me of my stress with my finances, and I'll still be driving an LS1. I just need to take a good look at the Z28 first and will report back it's condition. I know know I'm taking a step or two backwards, but it's will work out better in the long run. And yes, I know Values of cars are all relevant, depending on where you look, but I'm going by KBB since that's what the dealer stated.

Sounds like the right thing for you to do right now. Hey, a little sacrifice can lead to another SS in the future, when you have a little more $$. In any case, you'll still have an LS1.

Thanks all. Didn't get to go today, but did get the SS nice and clean to show them maybe Tuesday morning or wednesday night. Though it's my baby i'm trading in, I'm only going to trade her in if it feels right and it's 'good trade.' Plus, Red is my color at heart. And will match my sister's 02 V6 vert. I really doubt i could even get $18k if I sell it myself the way the market is righ tnow this fall.
Thanks for the replies so far.

For whatever reason, I do not believe that ownership of an F-body ought to be a source of stress - on a constant basis anyway. Ownership of an F-bod HAS to be a source of pleasure, gratification etc... the list goes on... If you can see an alternative that works for you (in the sense that it can eliminate the stress), then I say go for it, and max out the enjoyment of your car!! Good luck!

I defintiely agree with you on that. Of course, I have made so many friends with my SS and the wealth of information that I have learned the past two years is monstrous! Cars come and go, but people and friendships last forever! And I wont be totally out of the loop, since I"ll still own a 99 Z28 if I do get it. Thanks

Dan ok.....here is what happened to me. My car is going to Nevada this week and i only got $17,000 for my car. mine is a 2002 with 19,000 miles on it and i bought mine 2 years ago october 6th. so dont plan on getting $18k for it right now. Dealer value of the car is 13k-16k for trade in. you are better off selling it urself and getting $16-$17k for it.
Since i work in the industry i can tell you that NOBODY is buying cars anymore. especially when leases on new cars are great right now. we only sold 4 used cars and trucks last month when last year this time we sold well over 50 a month. this is why i had so much trouble getting someone to buy my car. but finally after a year of hard times i can rest assure that someone will enjoy my car just as much as i have.
the man that is getting my car is getting a great car for VERY little money. But that is a just how the car market is right now.

YEah, right now, it will probably come down to what they will give me for my SS. My family has done a lot of business with this dealer (Forbes Chevrolet) so that help me a tiny bit. It will also come down to how much I'll have to finance for the Z28 (for 36 months). I hope most of my questions are answered tomorrow. I might bring a print out of the KBB listing for my trade i value just in case since he stated that's what they look at. Also another dealer is selling a 2001 Z28 for $26 Not that they will get anyhting remotely close to that but oh well.I'm hoping for the best, and expecting the worse. IT would sure relieve so much stress if everything plays out alright.

Well..just got home. They only had one appraiser there today and said he said about $16k for trade in for the SS. And that's a definite NO. But Itold them that it would be a deal if I can get $18k for it. So it's not over yet. The Z28 they are selling is quite nice, and clean, etc. ANd they are asking $1500 under KBB, though I'm sure they are making the same profit margin on that car as other cars. They are not a used car dealership so, of course right now the market is for new cars, and SUV's at this time of year.
The guy said he would get back to me on some other offers on my car. What woul dyou think if I sold my car on ebay for 18-19k? I dunno if there woudl be any bites...also how much of a pain is it selling a car yourself if you dont have the actual title yet? Thanks all for listening, hehe

Hi Dan, I crashed my 2000 SS about 3 weeks ago and I'm looking for another one. It may take me another 10 days to settle everything with my old car, but I'm looking to buy soon.
I may be interested in your car. I don't know if you will still have it in 10 or 15 days, but let me know before you sell it elsewhere.
The only challenge is that I'm in Seattle! We'd have to arrange cross country shipping.
I'll send you an email. Thanks, Ryan

Dan, My own opinion would kinda follow what Erin had said. I don't see much benefit in selling something you had since NEW for a measly couple thousand dollars and get basically the same thing but now older and used. I could understand if it was about getting out of a Camaro for insurance purposes etc...but to basically buy a replacement that you don't know since new troubles me. I personally would look into refinancing or whatever and keep your BABY!@
