I will concede that the Porsche's build quality shines through when viewed in the F-bod's rear-view mirror. It ought to, for more than twice the price.
Based on the article, the Porsche's value (bang for the buck) doesn't match the quality. I just can never figure why someone would want a VW on steroids, anyway. But, if someone really wants one, go buy it. That's why they make different cars for different folks. Not everyone can be so lucky as to own an F-bod!
It is interesting that they picked a non-production Firehawk for a test. Even though they DID make a handful of promotional 98 Firehawks without the WU6, didn't they? Could that have been one in C&D? Anyone got that issue in their archives anywhere?

I found the article interesting too...The reality is, most of us can't afford a 911 new, and a lot of us can't even afford to buy one used...but even a young guy with a reasonably average income can afford a Mustang or Camaro, or even a Firebird...it is a comparison of apples and oranges, like an Escalade vs. a Tahoe, IMHO. BTW, I love 911's and FBod's all gens

End of similarity.
I have driven many porsches of different types and there is no comparison possible to a DRIVER !!
It's obvious that Porsches have better build quality. For the price they are they better have that. However, better build quality may not translate to better reliability and it certainly doesn't translate to better performance.
It's really a matter of whether or not you think the differences are worth the difference in price. From a performance standpoint, the answer is certainly NO, or at least I would think we could all see that. If you consider build quality and image then the answer would depend on how much value that is to you - to me it is nothing, to Pete and TL it's obviously a lot!

Nope...if build quality and image meant a lot to me...I wouldn't be caught dead in an f-body. F-bodies like it or not have a negative image. We're talkin Redneck/white trash punk image. I never cared about image... ...and build quality has always been shoddy... at least on my 3rd and 4th gens it was. But I didn't buy them for build quality either.
Its not just build quality thats superior with a Porsche, they are a better car all around. So what if a f-body can beat a 911 in the 1/4 mile. Whooop-dee-doo...i'm not one for 1/4 mile running anyway. I like a canyon carver. The Porsche will walk away from the f-body in the canyons. Given EQUAL drivers of course.
Just for the record...I love my Camaros...I've owned 8 of them over the years...but there is just no comparing them to a high end car like a Porsche.

Bang for the $$ F-Body is still the best deal on the planet. Comparison of the best car,Porsche wins for the FEEL,drive a 3 series or better yet an M3 and find me any other car,Ferrari/Lambo/Lotus included that transmit SO MUCH road feel and giddiness inducing "This is perfection" sensation!
It's the FEELING not so much the speed[Although a 911 TT AWD,is akin to a Shuttle liftoff]!!!

Pete, it's like I said, the Porsche is obviously a higher end, better built car. It's not really a question of what's faster or better quality - that's easy to determine - it's about whether or not you think the difference is worth the money, and that is personal preference.
It's really not fair to compare the F-body and the Porsche. It's apples and oranges. But that's what's so crazy. That you CAN compare a relatively cheap car to a world reknown sports car. It just shows just what the Camaro is about. Affordable performance.
