GM plans to introduce a new RWD vehicle platform that will spawn a new generation of cars and crossover vehicles produced in North and South America, Europe and Asia. After moving away from RWD cars starting in the 1970s to reduce weight and boost fuel economy, GM and other automakers are racing to reintroduce RWD as a way to enhance performance, attract enthusiasts and boost owner loyalty.

Thats the OPEL that GM showed last month at Geniva autoshow.... that was a terrible secret... when they showed it GM was "deciding" if they would build it... they already knew....

WHOOP!
they forgot to mention that fwd cars are cheaper to manufacture, although they are more expensive to repair and maintain, and they have an average shorter lifespan than their rwd counterparts but that mostly has to do with rwd cars being built for a performance (heavy duty) application.
Glad they finally acknowledged it... although im not surprised, given the resurgence of rwd cars from the sigma chassis, the news about a 6 speed rwd automatic car tranny, rumors, etc. Good to get some official word, though.

I believe this was JeffY's humble way of letting us faithful know that a new Camaro is on the way! Of course, I could be wrong. Just ask my wife.

Why dont we concentrate on easier, more solvable problems, like peace in the middle east, ending world hunger, and curing HIV?

I was going to keep my trap shut...but since you voiced it.
GMs customer service, quality and warranty issues are EXACTLY why my "loyalty" to GM is GONE.

In all seriousness...they should read the message boards. There are A LOT of unhappy people out there due to their ineptitude in these departments.
.....and I only started bitching AFTER they burned me the last time. I used to just accept it before that....no more though. Posts: 700 | From: Fighting the Nazis of the world..... | Registered: Jul 2002

I may be in the minority here, but the Chevy dealer I bring my car to has been EXTREMELY helpful & flexible w/ any issue I've had. They told me their philosophy is more along the lines of getting the problem fixed right, the first time & if it's broke, they'll fix it.
Granted, some of the problems we all encounter maybe shouldn't be as numerous as they are. But it's all the 'little things' that give your car character

I too have been treated very well by my dealer with all issues regarding customer service. I know Pete has had a different experiance as have others, I think it would help them to listen in here on the boards or survey their customer base. I'm sure they do, but I wonder if the information makes it down to where it's important?

I know there are good dealers out there and people have had good experiences.
However, I am not making this up...from my first new car I bought in 85 (86 Iroc-Z) to present day, I have been to dealers from Northern California to San Diego and L.A. in between. Everyone one of them were inept. I even had my 88 IROC-Z broken into at the dealer in a secured lot and was told it was an inside job. Service has always been horrible and its usually done wrong and I'd have to go back AGAIN to rectify it. I could list endless horror stories here.
I can think of one good experience from a GM dealer. My cat went bad on my 95 Z28 at 60K miles and they replaced it...but only because its the law here in California.
The straw that broke the camels back was the warped rotor issue on my 01 SS and the dealer and GM 1-800 told me to get bent after they turned the rotors twice.
6 new cars I've bought from them and they kick me in the teeth.
As for Quality....its gone downhill...my 95 Z28 was a MUCH better built car than the current 01 SS.
Piston Slap Oil consumption Warped rotors Poor paint quality on the hood and spoiler Rattling windows when half down. Some kind of rattling in the back underneath (cannot locate) Bubbling halo paint Temp gauge which goes to the middle and stays put Trunk that won't open when the remote is pushed twice. etc etc
......some say.."well you got a lemon". I say "well then a lot of people got lemons because there sure are a lot of people with the same problems out there"
Here are two companies that earned my respect when it comes to quality/service/warranty:
Years ago I bought a used Honda to get me around when times were tough for me. When I took it to the dealer for service (and I don't mean oil changes) they treated me LIKE GOLD and I didn't even buy the car from them...and it was USED!!!
Fast forward to present day... Bought a BMW 3-series in 2000. The customer service and warranty is UNMATCHED. We took the car in for squeaky brakes...they replaced EVERYTHING... no questions asked...Rotors, pads and even fluid. Corporate BMW (not just the dealer) has also been phenomenal, they really care about customer service.
I used to just accept the quality/warranty/service issues...but its just gotten to the point that I say to myself....WHY? There are companies who actually stand behind words like service and quality. They win my business from now on.
Anyway...this thread has sorta gotten off subject.... its just that the comment at the top about winning customer loyalty really made me laugh... Posts: 700 | From: Fighting the Nazis of the world..... | Registered: Jul 2002
